Edward Charles Volkert
Edward Charles Volkert (1871–1935) was an American Impressionist artist best known for his colorful and richly painted impressionist landscapes. His trademark subject was that of cattle and plowmen. His style is noted for its impressionist use of light, applied in small dots of paint, while maintaining an interest in the true forms and colors of his subject matter. He has been referred to as America's cattle painter extraordinaire". Early life and education The son of a hat merchant from Alsace, Volkert was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1871. He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Frank Duveneck, whose draftsmanship would influence Volkert. His mature style combined elements of the Barbizon school of painting and impressionism. Academic institutions he attended were Art Students League of New York and Art Academy of Cincinnati. He also studied under George de Forest Brush, Henry Siddons Mowbray, and William Merritt Chase. Volkert Doeksen (born 23 January 1963) is a private equity investor and founder of AlpInvest Partners (originally NIB Capital), one of the largest private equity investments managers globally with over €40 billion of assets under management. Today, he serves as managing partner and Chief Executive Officer of AlpInvest Partners which has offices in Amsterdam, Hong Kong and New York. Volkert Overlander (also ''Volcker'' and ''Volckert Overlander''; 7 October 1570 – 18 October 1630) was a Dutch noble, jurist, ship-owner, merchant and an Amsterdam regent from the Dutch Golden Age. Biography Volkert was born in Amsterdam, the son of Nicolaes Overlander († 1607), a merchant, and Catharina Sijs (1536–1617). He studies law at the University of Leiden and finished at the University of Basel in 1595. In 1599 he married to Geertruid Hooft; his sister Gertruid (1577–1653) married Geertruids brother Pieter Jansz Hooft. The couple had ten children; Maria Overlander van Purmerland ∞ Frans Banning Cocq and Geertruid Overlander (1609–1634) ∞ Cornelis de Graeff.
