Johannes Vogel (botanist)
Johannes Christian Vogel FLS FAAAS (born 15 May 1963) is a German botanist, who since 1 February 2012 has been Director General of the Museum für Naturkunde and Professor of Biodiversity and Public Science at Humboldt University, both in Berlin. He previously held the post of Keeper of Botany at the Natural History Museum in the United Kingdom from 2004 to 2012. He was educated at Bielefeld University and Peterhouse, Cambridge. From 1982 to 1984 Vogel was a professional soldier in the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2003 he married Sarah Darwin, a great-great-granddaughter of the naturalist Charles Darwin; they have two sons Leo Erasmus Darwin Vogel (born 2003) and Josiah Algy Darwin Vogel (born 2005). Wolfgang Vogel (8 February 1940 – 2 October 1996) was a German mathematician who made contributions to commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. Biography In 1968 Vogel became a mathematics student at the Halle University. Thomas Vogel (born 1959), is a German military historian and author. He is lieutenant-colonel in the German Armed Forces and a senior fellow of the Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the Bundeswehr. Education and career Vogel submitted his doctoral dissertation on Medieval History in 1994. By 1997, he was a permanent member of the Military History Research Office (MGFA) (since 2013, the Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the Bundeswehr) in Potsdam. Steven Vogel (April 7, 1940 – November 24, 2015) was an American biomechanics researcher, the James B. Duke professor in the Department of Biology at Duke University. Life Vogel was born in Beacon, New York, and educated there and in Poughkeepsie. He graduated from Tufts University and was awarded his graduate degrees from Harvard University. Vogel joined Duke University as an assistant professor in the Zoology department in 1966, and taught there for 40 years, eventually retiring as professor emeritus. Orville Vogel
Orville Vogel (1907–1991) was an American scientist and wheat breeder whose research made possible the "Green Revolution" in world food production. Life and career Orville Alvin Vogel was born in Pilger, Stanton County, Nebraska, one of the four children of William and Emelia Vogel. He graduated from high school in 1925 and received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1929 and 1931, respectively. He married Bertha Berkman in 1931 and began his career as a wheat breeder at Washington State College (now University) in Pullman in 1931. Vogel worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agriculture Research Service at Washington State University for his whole career, from 1931 to 1972. Kurt Vogel (30 September 1888 – 27 October 1985) was a German historian of mathematics. Life and Work Vogel was born in Altdorf bei Nürnberg and attended school in Ansbach. From 1907 to 1911, he studied mathematics and physics with Max Noether, Paul Gordan, and Erhard Schmidt in Erlangen, and with Felix Klein, David Hilbert, and Otto Toeplitz in Göttingen. He passed his examination to become a schoolteacher in 1911, then served as an army officer from 1913 to 1920 before taking a teaching post in Munich. In 1940, Vogel was appointed to a professorship at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he spent the remainder of his career. Klaus Vogel (1930 in Hamburg, Germany – 2007), was widely recognized as an academic expert on the aspects of international taxation, particularly on tax treaties.
