Vltavská (Prague Metro)
Vltavská () is a Prague Metro station on Line C, located in Holešovice, Prague 7. The station was opened on 3 November 1984 as part of the extension from Sokolovská (later renamed Florenc) to Fučíkova (later renamed Nádraží Holešovice). It is located nearby Strossmayer Square, and there are tram stations of the same name above the station. Holešovice
Holešovice () is a district in the north of Prague situated on a meander of the River Vltava, which makes up the main part of the district Prague 7 (an insignificant part belongs to Prague 1). In the past it was a heavily industrial suburb; today it is home to the main site of the Prague's National Gallery in Veletržní palác, and National Technical Museum. Prague 7 is a municipal district (''městská část'') in Prague, Czech Republic. The administrative district (''správní obvod'') of the same name consists of the quarters Letná, Holešovice, Bubny, Bubeneč, Troja as well as a small part of Libeň. It's one of the smallest Prague districts and stretches along the left bank of the Vltava. In the Northern part is located Troja with the Prague Zoo. It is linked to the city centre by metro line C. Florenc () is a Prague Metro station providing the interchange between Lines B and C. It serves the city's central bus station. The station was formerly known as ''Sokolovská''. Nádraží Holešovice (Prague Metro)
Nádraží Holešovice () is a Prague Metro station on Line C, serving the Holešovice mainline railway station. The station was formerly known as ''Fučíkova'', after journalist Julius Fučík. The station was opened on 3 November 1984 as the northern terminus of the extension from Sokolovská (later renamed Florenc), a status it retained until 26 June 2004 when the line was extended to Ládví station. The station is below ground level, and contains two tracks on opposite sides of the station platform. The station has two exits - the southern exit on Plynární street leads to tram stops and a local bus station, and the northern exit on Vrbenského street leads to the mainline and suburban railway station and a long-distance bus station. Strossmayer Square
Josip Juraj Strossmayer, also Štrosmajer (; german: Joseph Georg Strossmayer; 4 February 1815 – 8 April 1905) was a Croatian politician, Roman Catholic bishop, and benefactor. Early life and rise as a cleric Strossmayer was born in Osijek to a Croatian family. His great-grandfather was an ethnic German immigrant from Styria who had married a Croatian woman. He finished school at a gymnasium in Osijek, and then graduated theology at the Catholic seminary in Đakovo. He earned a PhD in philosophy at a high seminary in Budapest, at the age of 20. In 1838 he worked as a vicar in Petrovaradin, before moving to Vienna in 1840 to the Augustineum and the University of Vienna, where he received another doctorate in philosophy and Canon law in 1842. In 1847 he was made the Habsburg palace chaplain (a position he would hold until 1859), and named one of the rectors of the Augustineum. Brutalist Architecture
Brutalist architecture is an architectural style that emerged during the 1950s in the United Kingdom, among the reconstruction projects of the post-war era. Brutalist buildings are characterised by minimalist constructions that showcase the bare building materials and structural elements over decorative design.
