Vlks
Vlks are an alternative pop band from Chatham, Medway, Chatham and London, England. The group were featured as ''The Guardian'' 's 'New Band Of The Day' in April 2013, described as 'an indie chamber pop group, with a neat line in elegiac melodrama'. Formation David Goggin and Matthew Boorman were formerly members of the Medway indie pop, indie band Brigadier Ambrose until their final release in 2010. After a short hiatus, Goggin recorded some songs with long term collaborator and producer Jim Riley (Billy Childish, Two Wounded Birds) at Ranscombe Studios in Rochester, Kent, Rochester in late 2011. Ben Hogwood and George Bacon were asked to overdub cello and violin parts and Vlks was formed as a result, initially as a means to play the songs live. John Jennings joined as bass player in 2012. Brigadier Ambrose
Brigadier Ambrose are an alternative pop band from Chatham, England. After releasing a series of digital only singles, playing various festivals, and recording sessions for BBC Radio One at Maida Vale, the band released their debut and only album to date ''Fuzzo'' in early 2010 through their own Brigadier Records. ''Fuzzo'' was entered into the Mercury Music Prize for 2010 but not short-listed. The band were then inactive for several years, until regrouping in early 2015, with the single "Jambon Dandy" released in June 2015. Formation Brigadier Ambrose formed in 2006 when school friends David Goggin, Matthew Boorman and Daniel Boorman began recording songs they had written at Goggin's house in Chatham. The band was completed when Goggin met Karl Butler through a university friend, and the foursome began rehearsing and writing in a studio in Maidstone, Kent. Buffalo Bar
The Buffalo Bar was a music and arts venue located at 259 Upper Street, Highbury Corner, Islington, from 2000 until 2014. History The venue was situated beneath The Famous Cock Tavern, adjacent to Highbury and Islington tube station, Highbury & Islington station. The basement at 259 Upper Street had previously been a branch of Po Na Na nightclub, and before that, Club Down Under. The Buffalo Bar opened in 2000 and hosted performances by a large number of notable alternative rock, alternative and indie rock artists. The Wave Pictures
The Wave Pictures are an English rock band consisting of David Tattersall (vocals and guitar), Franic Rozycki (bass guitar) and Jonny Helm (drums). Background The band has its origins in a group called Blind Summit, which David and Franic formed with Hugh Noble in Wymeswold, near Loughborough in Leicestershire, in 1998. The band changed its name to the Wave Pictures and Hugh was eventually permanently replaced by Jonny Helm. They recorded and self-released a string of albums before settling in London. Highbury
Highbury is a district in North London and part of the London Borough of Islington in Greater London that was owned by Ranulf brother of Ilger and included all the areas north and east of Canonbury and Holloway Roads. The manor house was situated by what is now the east side of Hornsey Road near the junction with Seven Sisters Road. After the manor decayed, a new manor house was built in 1271 (see below) to the south-east; to differentiate it from the original manor and because it was on a hill, it was called Highbury, from which the area takes its name. The site for Highbury Manor was possibly used by a Roman garrison as a summer camp. During the construction of a new Highbury House in 1781, tiles were found that could have been Roman or Norman; however, these have been lost. Club Fandango
Club Fandango is a live music promotions company based in Highbury, London. It was started in 2001, by Simon Williams and Andy MacLeod. The former runs Fierce Panda records, the latter the Pointy Records label. Williams and MacLeod had previously promoted nights such as Club Spangle!, NME "On" nights, Club Pointy and Club Panda. Initially promoting every Tuesday night at the Dublin Castle, Camden, Club Fandango soon expanded to regularly put on gigs in other north London venues such as Camden Barfly. On certain nights, Club Fandango teamed up with Rock Sound magazine, the BMI and digital music station BBC 6 Music.
