Vlastimir Đorđević
Vlastimir Đorđević (Serbian Cyrillic: Властимир Ђорђевић; born 17 November 1948) is a Serbian former police colonel general. For his role in the Kosovo War, he was found guilty of war crimes against Kosovo Albanians before the ICTY. Early life and education Đorđević was born in Koznica, Vladičin Han, PR Serbia. He graduated from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law. Career Đorđević was Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, and Chief of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 1997, Đorđević was promoted from Lieutenant General to Colonel General by presidential decree. He remained the Assistant Minister and Chief of the Public Security Department until January 2001. Batajnica Mass Graves
The Batajnica mass graves, are graves that were found in 2001 near Batajnica, a suburb of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. The graves contained the bodies of 744 Kosovo Albanians, civilians, killed during the 1998-99 Kosovo War. The mass graves were found on the training grounds of a Serbian police unit, the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (Serbia), Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ). Dead bodies were brought to the site by trucks from Kosovo; most were incinerated before burial. After the war, SAJ restricted investigators' access to the firing range, and continued live-firing exercises whilst forensic teams tried to investigate the massacre. War Crimes In The Kosovo War
A series of war crimes were committed during the Kosovo War (early 1998 – 11 June 1999). The forces of the Slobodan Milošević regime committed rape, killed many Albanians, Albanian civilians and expelled them during the war, alongside the widespread destruction of civilian, cultural and religious property. According to the Human Rights Watch, the vast majority of the violations from January 1998 to April 1999 were attributable to Law enforcement in Serbia, Serbian police or the Armed Forces of Serbia and Montenegro, Yugoslav army. Violations also included war crimes committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA or UÇK), such as kidnappings and summary executions of civilians. Joint Criminal Enterprise
Joint criminal enterprise (JCE) is a legal doctrine used during war crimes tribunals to allow the prosecution of members of a group for the actions of the group. This doctrine considers each member of an organized group individually responsible for crimes committed by group within the common plan or purpose. It arose through the application of the idea of common purpose and has been applied by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia to prosecute political and military leaders for mass war crimes, including genocide, committed during the Yugoslav Wars 1991–1999. Operation Horseshoe
Operation Horseshoe was a 1999 alleged plan to ethnically cleanse Albanians in Kosovo. The plan was to be carried out by Serbian police and the Yugoslav army. In 2011, former Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nadezhda Mihaylova (Neynsky) revealed in a TV documentary that the Bulgarian government had turned over to Germany an unverified report compiled by its military agency which "made clear" the existence of the plan, even though the military intelligence warned that the information could not be verified. Vučitrn Massacre
The Vushtrri massacre was the mass killing of Kosovo Albanian refugees near Vushtrri, during the Kosovo War on 2–3 May 1999. Background A column of about 1,000 refugees were travelling in a convoy of about 100 tractors, who were fleeing fighting between the KLA and Serbian forces east of Vushtrri. Serbian Police and paramilitary forces caught up with the convoy that traveled south. On 2-3 May between Gornja Sudimlja and Donja Sudimlja ( sq, Studime e Eperme and Studime e Poshtme) near Vushtrri, an estimated one hundred men were killed. ICTY investigator Romeu Ventura stated that 120 civilians were murdered on 2 May by Serb forces and buried two days later in a mass grave five miles east of Vushtrri.
