Vlasta Lah
Vlasta Giulia Lah Rocchi (January 13, 1913 – July 12, 1978), known professionally as Vlasta Lah, was the first woman Film director, director of sound films in Argentine cinema, as well as the only woman filmmaker in Latin America in the 1960s. Before her, the only women filmmakers in the country worked during the silent era in the 1910s and early 1920s, before the Film industry, industrial development of Argentine cinema. Lah was born in Pula, then part of Austria-Hungary, and emigrated to Buenos Aires around 1930 with her husband and fellow filmmaker Catrano Catrani. She worked extensively as an assistant director for the film studio Estudios San Miguel, in films by renowned directors of the time. Estudios San Miguel
''Estudios San Miguel'' (San Miguel Studios) was an Argentina, Argentine film studio that was active in the 1940s and early 1950s. It flourished during the golden age of Cinema of Argentina, and at its peak was one of the major studios in Buenos Aires. Genres ranged from musical comedy to costume drama and gaucho thriller. Films included ''La guerra gaucha'' (''The Gaucho War'' 1942), co-produced with ''Artistas Argentinos Asociados'', and the comedy ''Juvenilia (film), Juvenilia'' (1943), both of which won several major awards. Feminist Cinema
Women's cinema primarily describes cinematic works directed (and optionally produced too) by women filmmakers. The Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires is a private hospital in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina. It has 750 beds and serves around 2,000 inpatients per month. Studio System
A studio system is a method of filmmaking wherein the production and distribution of films is dominated by a small number of large movie studios. It is most often used in reference to Hollywood motion picture studios during the Golden Age of Hollywood from the 1920s to 1960s, wherein studios produced films primarily on their own filmmaking lots with creative personnel under often long-term contract, and dominated exhibition through vertical integration, i.e., the ownership or effective control of distributors and exhibition, guaranteeing additional sales of films through manipulative booking techniques such as block booking. Pierre Bruno Hugo Fontana, otherwise known as Hugo del Carril (30 November 1912 – 13 August 1989 in Buenos Aires), was an Argentine film actor, film director and tango singer of the classic era. Early life Born in Buenos Aires, del Carril was the son of parents of a rich economic position, his mother Orsolina Bertani was born in Argentina (daughter of the Italian Anarchist Orsini Bertani), but his father Hugo Fontana was an Italian architect, born in Milan. But in spite of the comforts and the comfortable life they led, his parents separated and young Hugo was left in the charge of a family friend. Carlos Schlieper
Carlos Schlieper (23 September 1902 – 11 April 1957 in Buenos Aires) was an Argentina, Argentine film director and screenwriter of the classic era. His father, Hermann Heinrich Schlieper Feldmann (1842-1925), was an industrialist of Germans, German nationality and his mother, very Catholic, was Spaniard (from Andalusia). Schlieper, who had three male and three female siblings, received a careful education that included traveling abroad and studies at a high school in Switzerland. Mario Soffici (14 May 1900 – 10 May 1977) was an Argentine film director, actor and screenwriter of the classic era. Biography A native of Florence, Soffici moved to Argentina in the 1920s and began acting in 1931 and directing in 1935 on the film ''El Alma de Bandoneón'', working with popular actors of the period such as Libertad Lamarque in tango-based musical films.
