Vladimir Gutiérrez
Vladimir Gutiérrez Rodríguez (born September 18, 1995) is a Cuban professional baseball pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021. Career Gutiérrez played for the Cuba national baseball team at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games. He played in the Cuban National Series for the Vegueros de Pinar del Río and was the Rookie of the Year for the 2013-2014 season. Gutierrez was selected to represent his country in an international tournament but left his Pinar del Rio team during the Caribbean Series in February 2015 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He made his way to Mexico, where he eventually established residency in May. Major League Baseball declared him to be a free agent on July 7, 2015. On August 30, 2016, Gutiérrez signed with the Cincinnati Reds for $4.75 million. Vegueros de Pinar del Río (English: Pinar del Río Meadow Growers) is a baseball team in the Cuban National Series. Based in the western city of Pinar del Río, the ''Vegueros'' are historically one of the more successful teams in the Cuban National Series, winning championships in 1997, 1998, 2011, 2015. History Prior to the 1992-93 Cuban National Series, two teams competed in the province of Pinar del Río: Forestales (also known as Pinar del Río during some seasons) and Vegueros. Vegueros was a bona fide powerhouse, winning the championship in 1978, 1981, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. A 1992–1993 contraction of the league, in which eight teams were eliminated, caused Vegueros and Forestales to be combined into a single team. In Major League Baseball, the Rookie of the Year Award is given annually to two outstanding rookie players, one each for the American League (AL) and National League (NL), as voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA). The award was established in 1940 by the Chicago chapter of the BBWAA, which selected an annual winner from 1940 through 1946. The award became national in 1947; Jackie Robinson, the Brooklyn Dodgers' second baseman, won the inaugural award. Willson Eduardo Contreras (born May 13, 1992) is a Venezuelan professional baseball catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). David C. Bote ( , born April 7, 1993) is an American professional baseball infielder in the Chicago Cubs organization. He made his MLB debut in 2018. Amateur career Bote attended Erie High School in Erie, Colorado as a freshman and later transferred to Faith Christian Academy in Arvada, Colorado. As a senior in 2011, Bote led Faith Christian to the 3A Colorado state title in baseball. Bote enrolled at Liberty University to play college baseball as a walk-on, but after a semester, transferred to Neosho County Community College in Kansas.
