Vivian Tierney (born London, 26 November 1957) is an English operatic soprano,Adam, Nicky (ed). "Tierney, Vivian." In: ''Who's Who in British Opera''. Scolar Press, Aldershot, 1993. who has sung across a wide range of repertoire in the United Kingdom and Europe, and made several recordings. Kent Opera was a British opera company active between 1969 and 1989. It was based in Ashford and regular venues included The Orchard Theatre, Dartford; Assembly Halls, Tunbridge Wells; Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury; Kings Theatre, Southsea; Theatre Royal,Norwich, and the Derngate, Northampton. ''The Silver Tassie'' is an opera in four acts by the English composer Mark-Anthony Turnage. The English libretto was written by Amanda Holden (writer), Amanda Holden based on the 1927/28 The Silver Tassie (play), play of the same name by Seán O'Casey. The opera was composed between 1997 and 1999. Background The ''Silver Tassie'' was commissioned by English National Opera (ENO) while Turnage was their Composer in Association and benefited from being worked on at the ENO Studio. It was part funded by Dallas Opera. In an interview for the programme for the ENO production, Turnage talks about treating the four acts as the movements of a symphony with a dance finale. ''Peter Grimes'', Op. 33, is an opera in three acts by Benjamin Britten, with a libretto by Montagu Slater based on the section "Peter Grimes", in George Crabbe's long narrative poem '' The Borough''. The "borough" of the opera is a fictional small town that bears some resemblance to Crabbe's – and later Britten's – home of Aldeburgh, Suffolk, on England's east coast. ''Salome'', Op. 54, is an opera in one act by Richard Strauss. The libretto is Hedwig Lachmann's German translation of the 1891 French play '' Salomé'' by Oscar Wilde, edited by the composer. (''All Women Do It, or The School for Lovers''), K. 588, is an opera buffa in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was first performed on 26 January 1790 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria. The libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte who also wrote ''Le nozze di Figaro'' and ''Don Giovanni''. Although it is commonly held that was written and composed at the suggestion of the Emperor Joseph II, recent research does not support this idea. Robin Greville Holloway (born 19 October 1943) is an English composer, academic and writer. Early life Holloway was born in Leamington Spa.
