Vivian Park, Utah
Vivian Park is an unincorporated community in northeastern Utah County, Utah, United States. Description The community is located in Provo Canyon along the Provo River and U.S. Route 189, about northeast of Provo. It is situated between Mount Timpanogos on the northwest, Wildwood on the east, Cascade Mountain on the south, and Bridal Veil Falls on the west. The community was named after Vivian McBride (daughter of the owner of the first grocery store and post office on the Provo East Bench). When the late Thomas S. Monson (former President of the LDS Church) was a child he would spend summers from the 4th of July to Labor Day at Vivian Park. He owned the family cabin there until he died. The Vivian Park station is the western terminus of the Heber Valley Railroad. Mount Timpanogos
Mount Timpanogos, often referred to as Timp, is the second-highest mountain in Utah's Wasatch Range. Timpanogos rises to an elevation of above sea level in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. With of topographic prominence, Timpanogos is the 47th-most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States. The mountain towers about over Utah Valley, including the cities of Lehi, Provo, Orem, Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Lindon and others. The exposed massif of the mountain is made up entirely of limestone and dolomite from the Pennsylvanian period, and is about 300 million years old. Heavy winter snowfall is characteristic of this portion of the Wasatch Range, and avalanche activity is common in winter and spring. The mountain is also home to Timpanogos Cave National Monument, a series of decorated caves in the north end of the mountain that have guided ranger tours open daily to the public during the warmer months. Heber City, Utah
Heber City is a city and county seat of Wasatch County, Utah, Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The population was 11,362 at the time of the 2010 census. It is located 43 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. History Heber City was first settled in 1859 by Robert Broadhead, James Davis, and James Gurr. John W. Witt built the first house in the area. The area was under the direction of Bishop Silas Smith, who was in Provo. In 1860 Joseph S. Murdock became the bishop over the Latter-day Saints in Heber City and vicinity. Heber Valley Railroad
The Heber Valley Railroad (HVRX) is a heritage railroad based in Heber City, Utah. It operates passenger excursion trains along a line between Heber City and Vivian Park, which is located in Provo Canyon. The HVRX carries over 110,000 passengers a year. The railroad line is approximately long. A typical round trip ride on the train takes about 3 hours. There are a total of four passing sidings outside of the Heber yard limit. Notable landmarks seen from the train include Mount Timpanogos, Cascade Mountain, Deer Creek Dam and Reservoir, Provo River, Sundance Ski Resort, Tate Barn, and Soldier Hollow.
