Vivian Ostrovsky
Vivian Ostrovsky (born 1945) is an experimental filmmaker and curator. Biography Ostrovsky was born in 1945 New York City, US, and spent most of her childhood years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She completed a B.A. degree in Psychology in Paris, at the Institut de Psychologie, and later enrolled in Film Studies at the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle. She was later a student of Henri Langlois at the Cinémathèque Française and of Éric Rohmer at the Institut d'Art et d'Archéologie. In the 1970s, together with Rosine Grange, Ostrovsky founded the non-profit organization Ciné-Femmes International (first called Femmes/Media), dedicated to the promotion, distribution and exhibition of films made by women. During its active years (1975–1979) Ciné-Femmes International addressed the lack of distribution and exhibition opportunities for women’s films. Experimental Film
Experimental film or avant-garde cinema is a mode of filmmaking that rigorously re-evaluates cinematic conventions and explores non-narrative forms or alternatives to traditional narratives or methods of working. Many experimental films, particularly early ones, relate to arts in other disciplines: painting, dance, literature and poetry, or arise from research and development of new technical resources. Chantal Anne Akerman (; 6 June 19505 October 2015) was a Belgian film director, screenwriter, artist, and Film studies, film professor at the City College of New York. Raphaël Bassan (born 1948) is a French film critic and journalist, who has specialized in experimental film and the history of cinema. He has also made three short movies. Biography Bassan was born in Burgas, Bulgaria, of French nationality, in 1948. His family moved to Paris in 1949. He has been interested in all forms of cinema from childhood. He has been a poet since 1964. He was one of the founders with Hubert Haddad of the magazine, ''Le Point d'Être'' (which only published three issues). Carolyn Carlson (born 7 March 1943) is an American born French nationalized contemporary dance choreographer, performer, and poet. She is of Finnish descent.
