Vivian Blake (politician)
Vivian O. Blake Queen's Counsel, QC (15 March 1921 – 28 December 2000) was a Jamaican lawyer and politician. Biography Vivian Osmond Scott Blake was born in St. James, Jamaica, was educated at Wolmer's Schools, Wolmer's Boys School in Kingston, Jamaica, Kingston and studied law at Gray's Inn, London, from 1945 to 1948. Queen's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel (Post-nominal letters, post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen regnant, queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His [Her] Majesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales. Some Commonwealth countries have either abolished the position, or renamed it so as to remove monarchical connotations, for example, 'Senior counsel' or 'Senior Advocate'. Appointment as King's Counsel is an office, conferred by the Crown, that is recognised by courts. Members have the privilege of sitting within the inner Bar (law), bar of court. Supreme Court Of The Bahamas
The Supreme Court of the Bahamas is the third highest court in the adjudicative hierarchy of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The court was created by Article 93(1) of the Constitution. Before that, the Supreme Court was governed by the Supreme Court Act of 1896. The Neo-Georgian style building which is home to the Supreme Court in New Providence is located on Bank Lane. Ground was broken for the building in 1921 by then Governor of the Colony of the Bahamas, Sir Harry Cordeaux. The courthouse is similar in design to the Central Public Building which is north of the building. Denis Malone
Sir Denis Eustace Gilbert Malone (24 November 1922 – 2000) was a British jurist in the Caribbean. He graduated from Wycliffe College in 1941. He was commissioned a flight sergeant in the Royal Air Force on 15 May 1945. He served as Solicitor-General of Barbados, and then in February 1961 was appointed a Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of British Honduras (today Belize). He rose to Chief Justice of Belize in 1974 until his replacement in 1977 by Albert Staine, who became the first native of Belize to hold that position. He was knighted in the 1977 Silver Jubilee and Birthday Honours. He went on to serve on the Supreme Court of the Bahamas as a Justice from May 1979 to September 1983, Acting Chief Justice from September to December 1983, and Senior Justice from January 1984 to November 1989.
