Vivekananda College, Madurai
Vivekananda College is a men-only autonomous college of arts and sciences in Thiruvedagam in Maduraiā::: Colleges ā University Grants Commission :::/ref> district affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. It was founded in 1971 by Swami chidbhavanada and is managed by Ramakrishna Tapovanam. It is the only registered Gurukula Institute of Life Training in India. The National Assessment and has given the 'A' grade (CGPA 3-59/4.00) for the college when the college was reaccredited in 2014 . It has an IGNOU study centre. The students are encouraged to join Certificate Programmes and Degree Programmes offered by IGNOU. The college has three daily prayers, compulsory physical activities like yoga and sports, and optional activities like silambam and gymnastics. Thiruvedagam
Thiruvedagam is a village located in between Sholavandan and Madurai. It is away from Madurai and away from Sholavandan. It comes under Vadipatti taluk in Madurai district. It is located at the bank of the River Vaigai, which flows in the direction North to South here in Thiruvedagam. Here a famous and historical Shiva temple named Edaganathar temple is located. Swami Chidbhavananda
Swami Chidbhavananda (11 March 1898 ā 16 November 1985) was born in Senguttaipalayam near Pollachi in Coimbatore District, Madras Presidency, India. His parents named him 'Chinnu'. He studied in Stanes School, Coimbatore. He was one of the two Indians in his class, the rest being British. His parents wanted him to go to England after completing his degree in Presidency College, Chennai. While making arrangements for his travel abroad, he came across a book about Swami Vivekananda's philosophy. The book had a profound impact on his mind. He started visiting Ramakrishna Math in Mylapore often and had discussions with Swamijis. Finally, he decided to become a novice and went to Ramakrishna Mission in Belur, West Bengal. Sholavandan
Chozhavandan is a panchayat town in Madurai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the left bank of the Vaigai River, sixteen miles north west of Madurai. It is one of 12 "town- panchayats" of Madurai district. Etymology The town has been variously referred to as "Sholavandan", "Solaikuruchi" and "Senagapuri".
