Viva (2015 Film)
''Viva'' is a 2015 Spanish-language Irish drama film, set in Cuba, directed by Paddy Breathnach and written by Mark O'Halloran. The film stars Héctor Medina as a young drag performer who, after reuniting with his estranged father, must come to terms with his sexuality. The film was selected as the Irish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards. It made the December shortlist of nine films, but was not nominated. List Of Irish Submissions For The Academy Award For Best Foreign Language Film
Ireland is one of one hundred countries that have submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Although Ireland has a thriving domestic film industry, most feature films are produced in English and are thus ineligible for the award. , nine Irish film have been submitted to the Academy for Oscar consideration. This is a list of submissions to the 88th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. Nine shortlisted contenders were revealed a week before the announcement of the Oscar nominations.
