Vitorino Silva
Vitorino Francisco da Rocha e Silva (born on 19 April 1971), popularly known as Tino de Rans, is a Portuguese paver, television personality and politician. Biography Vitorino Silva was born in the small village of Rans in Penafiel; the sixth of eight siblings born to a ropemaker father and a smallholder and poultry farmer mother. His father died when he was eight years old. He became President of the Parish Council of Rans in the 1993 local elections, where he was running for the Socialist Party; he was reelected in the 1997 elections and served until 2002. He became famous nationwide in February 1999, when he delivered an enthusiastic speech during the 11th National Congress of the Socialist Party that drew applause and laughter from the audience at the Coliseu dos Recreios; the speech ended with Silva hugging the party's secretary-general and incumbent Prime Minister António Guterres. Syncretic Politics
Syncretic politics, or spectral-syncretic politics, combine elements from across the conventional left–right political spectrum. The idea of syncretic politics has been influenced by syncretism and syncretic religion. The main idea of syncretic politics is that taking political positions of neutrality by combining elements associated with left-wing politics and right-wing politics can achieve a goal of reconciliation. 2017 Portuguese Local Elections
The Portuguese local elections of 2017 were held on October 1, 2017. The elections consisted of three separate elections in the 308 Portuguese municipalities, the election for the Municipal Chambers, whose winner was elected mayor, another election for the Municipal Assembly, as well an election for the lower-level Parish Assembly, whose winner was elected parish president. This last election was held in the more than 3,000 parishes around the country. The Socialist Party (PS) was the big winner of the elections consolidating their position as the largest local party in Portugal. The PS won 160 mayors, 10 more than in 2013, and more than 38% of the votes. The Socialists maintained control in cities like Lisbon, although here they lost their majority, Funchal and Coimbra, at the same time they gained some strong PSD bastions like Chaves or Mirandela. The Portuguese local elections of 2009 took place on 11 October. The elections consisted of three separate elections in the 308 Portuguese municipalities, the election for the Municipal Chambers, whose winner is elected president, another election for the Municipal Assembly and a last one for the lower-level Parish Assembly, whose winner is elected parish president. This last was held separately in the more than 4,000 parishes around the country. The elections took place just two weeks after the 2009 legislative election. The elections resulted almost in a tie between the Socialist Party and the Social Democratic Party, in which the Social Democrats lost almost 20 municipalities and also lost a considerable number of councilors. Valongo
Valongo () is a Portuguese municipality located in the District of Porto and 10 km from Porto, in the northern region of Portugal.
