Vitesse Models
Vitesse was founded in 1982 as a Portuguese company making diecast cars mostly in 1:43 scale. It was founded in the city of Oporto and is a brand name of Cinerius, Ltd. The Fit of Vitesse Because of detail and realism of the models, Vitesse gained increasing popularity in the late 1980s and 1990s. Models were often similar in concept to French Solido, though less toy-like and more oriented to collectors. Conceptually, then, Vitesse falls somewhere between Solido and the Italian Brumm in presentation. Though diecast, and realistic, models were rather fragile. Pieces tended to fall off, bodies separated from chassis and paint sometimes peeled - but in good condition they were impressive. Metosul
MetOsul was Portugal's oldest diecast toy manufacturer. The original company was founded in the Atlantic coastal town of Espinho, Portugal, Espinho a few miles south of Oporto, in 1931. At its high point it was known for making quality second hand castings of Dinky Toys. Name and history Originally called Luso-Celluloide, the company made toy jewelry, and other trinkets, focusing on celluloid (plastic) objects. Later, the name Osul was created for the production of plastics - this was an anagram of the Luso name. Zamac toys appeared in the 1960s, thus the name Metal Osul or MetOsul (with a capital 'O') was coined. Metosul made various metal objects besides cars including a large assortment of toy tools. The meat of the Metosul name were its line of 1:43 scale cars and trucks. Metosul lasted until about 1990. Solido
Solido is a French manufacturing company based in Oulins, west of Paris, which produces die-cast scale model cars, military vehicles, and commercial vehicles. Vehicles are usually made of zamac alloy in varying scales. Typically, Solido's main competition in France was Norev, but internationally, Polistil, Corgi Toys, Dinky Toys, Mercury, and Tekno produced similar style toys. History "Solido" was the brand name established in 1930 by Ferdinand de Vazeilles of the "Fonderie de précision de Nanterre" in the western Paris suburb of Nanterre, France. The company was one of the first European firms to champion the "virtues of unbreakable diecast metal". Vazeilles' first product was a metal Gergovia brand spark plug on wheels. Trofeu
Trofeu is a line of 1/43 scale diecast vehicles made by Replicar in Portugal. The company was started in 1989, in Espinho just south of Oporto - the same town where Metosul and Luso Toys had previously been made in the 1960s and 1970s. Trofeu products are mainly contemporary rally cars alongside their stock counterparts. Product history The first model was a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RAC Rally, which had been driven by Stig Blomqvist. It was released in March 1989. In 1990, the second model was introduced, a Toyota Celica GT4 ST165. Trofeu also manufactured the newer Toyota Celica GT-Four ST185 and ST205 in both rally and stock guises. Trofeu miniature cars were made of diecast metal mounted on plastic chassis. Most cost about 40 Euros. Onyx Models
Onyx primarily refers to the parallel banded variety of chalcedony, a silicate mineral. Agate and onyx are both varieties of layered chalcedony that differ only in the form of the bands: agate has curved bands and onyx has parallel bands. The colors of its bands range from black to almost every color. Commonly, specimens of onyx contain bands of black and/or white.
