Vitale Da Bologna
250px, ''St. George and the Dragon'' Vitale da Bologna (–1360), also known as Vitale di Aymo de' Cavalli or Vitale degli Equi, was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance. He is a representative of the 14th century school of painting in Bologna, his natal city and the place where he was most active. Surviving works in Bologna include a polyptych in the church of San Salvatore (1353) and fresco fragments in the right apsidal chapel of Santa Maria dei Servi. Vitale was also active in Pomposa, where he painted the frescoes in the apse of the Pomposa Abbey, in Ferrara, completing a set of now-lost statues for Ferrara Cathedral and a confraternity altarpiece now in the Vatican Museums, and in Udine, where he was called to work for the Patriarch of Aquileia, Bertrand de Saint Geniès. The Trecento (, also , ; short for , "1300") refers to the 14th century in Italian cultural history. Period Art Commonly, the Trecento is considered to be the beginning of the Renaissance in art history. The Palazzo Pepoli Vecchio is a Medieval palace located on Via Castiglione number 8, in central Bologna, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The merlonated brick Gothic-style building is now the civic ''Museum of the History of Bologna''. It stands across the street from the Baroque-style Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, now a civic art gallery. History The land for the palace was acquired in 1276 under the aristocrat Romeo Pepoli. In 1344, Taddeo Pepoli, son of Romeo, commissioned the building of the palace. The Pepoli family owned the palace until 1910. After the death of Agostino Siero Pepoli, the palace was ceded to the municipality.
