Visitación Padilla
Visitación Padilla (*Talanga, Francisco Morazán, July 2, 1882 – February 12, 1960, Comayagüela, DC) was an educator and feminist activist. Padilla organized the mutual aid societies of Honduras, strengthened anti-alcohol leagues and fervently organized the rights of Honduran women. Life Visitación Padilla was born in Talanga, a municipality of the Departamento of Francisco Morazán, in the Republic of Honduras. She graduated and became a teacher in 1909, then in 1913 became a member of the organization named “Ateneo de Honduras” together with writers Rafael Heliodoro Valle y Froilán Turcios, introducing her organizational qualities. In 1917, she founded the liberal newspaper “Juan Rafael Mora” in Tegucigalpa. During the Civil War of 1924, Padilla expressed her ideas in ''Boletín de la Defensa Nacional,'' and at the same time founded "Sociedad Cultural Femenina", a group of women from Tegucigalpa led by Padilla. Talanga
Talanga is a town, with a population of 19,860 (2020 calculation), Population of cities in Honduras and a Municipalities of Honduras, municipality in the Honduras, Honduran Departments of Honduras, department of Francisco Morazán department, Francisco Morazán. Pablo Zelaya Sierra
Pablo Zelaya Sierra (October 30, 1896 – 1933) was a Honduran artist and painter. The highest National Prize for Honduran artists carries his name as a tribute. Biography Parents and first years Pablo Zelaya Sierra was born on October 30, 1896 in the municipality of Ojojona, Francisco Morazán Department. His parents were Felipe Zelaya and Isabel Sierra. From early childhood, he developed his artistic interests and made his way to study at the School of Fine Arts in the neighboring Republic of Costa Rica in 1918–1919. Gladys Lanza
Gladys Lanza (1942 – 17 September 2016) was a feminist and human rights activist from Honduras. Biography Lanza was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in 1942. Trade unionism Lanza's political activism began as part of the Honduran trade union movement. In the 1990s Lanza was president of the Workers Union of the National Electric Power Company (STENEE), during which time she led the union's resistance to privatisation. Previously, Lanza had been vice-president of the Central Federation of Free Trade Unions of Honduras and secretary for the United Federation of Workers of Honduras. She was also active in the communist party. She was held political prisoner by the government of Honduras in the 1980s based on bogus evidence. Her name was listed as a target for paramilitary dissidents and in 1991 her house was destroyed by a bomb. Julio Lozano Díaz
Julio Lozano Díaz (27 March 1885 – 20 August 1957), was first Vice President of Honduras (1949–1954) and then President of Honduras, from 5 December 1954 until 21 October 1956. He was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and worked as an accountant for the Rosario Mining Company. He was Minister of Finance of Honduras from 1934 to 1936. Lozano assumed presidential authority on 16 November 1954 while President Juan Manuel Gálvez was out of the country seeking medical attention. In December, citing a constitutional crisis over the stalemated presidential elections, he proclaimed himself the chief of state and he began instituting his own policies. Generally unpopular, and in ill health, Lozano was forced to resign by the military. He won a democratic election in 1956, but the result was deemed illegitimate and was annulled by the military junta.
