Jack Perrin
Jack Perrin (born Lyman Wakefield Perrin; July 25, 1896 – December 17, 1967) was an American actor specializing in Westerns. Early life Perrin was born in Three Rivers, Michigan. His father worked in real estate and relocated the family to Los Angeles, California shortly after the start of the 20th century. Career Perrin served in the United States Navy during World War I. Following the war, he returned to Los Angeles and started acting for Universal Studios. His first on-screen appearance was in the 1917 film ''Luke's Lost Liberty'' alongside Harold Lloyd. During the 1920s, Perrin made a name for himself, starring in a number of cliffhanger, melodrama, and serial films. Perrin found a niche in B-movie Westerns of the 1930s. He usually played leads as Jack Perrin, but occasionally adopted the pseudonyms Jack Gable or Richard (Dick) Terry. Marjorie Daw (born Marguerite E. House; January 19, 1902 – March 18, 1979) was an American film actress of the silent film era. She appeared in more than 70 films between 1914 and 1929. Career Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Daw was the daughter of John H. House. She took her stage name from '' Marjorie Daw'', a short story by Thomas Bailey Aldrich. Daw began acting as a teen to support her younger brother and herself after the death of their parents. She made her film debut in 1914 and worked steadily during the 1920s. She retired from acting after the advent of sound film. Personal life and death Daw married director Alfred Edward Sutherland on April 20, 1923, in Beverly Hills; They had no children, and they divorced in 1925. Otto Lederer (April 17, 1886 – September 3, 1965) was a Czech-American film actor. He appeared in 120 films between 1912 and 1933, most notably ''The Jazz Singer'', the first full-length film to have sound sequences, and the Laurel and Hardy short ''You're Darn Tootin'''. In 1925, Lederer married Segunda Yriondo. They were divorced on July 10, 1929. He later married actress Gretchen Lederer. Otto is entombed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Though at the time the technology to synchronize sound with the film did not exist, music was seen as an essential part of the viewing experience.
