Virginia State Route 206
State Route 206 (SR 206) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Dahlgren Road, the state highway runs from SR 3 at Arnolds Corner east to SR 604 at the entrance to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division in Dahlgren in eastern King George County. Route description SR 206 begins at an intersection with SR 3 (Kings Highway) at Arnolds Corner a short distance west of King George, the county seat of King George County. The state highway heads northeast along the height of land between Upper Machodoc Creek to the south and Pepper Mill Creek to the north. After passing through Weedonville, SR 206 leaves the short ridge and crosses Pepper Mill Creek to reach Berthaville, where the highway intersects SR 218 (Caledon Road). The United States Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), named for Rear Admiral John A. Dahlgren, is located in King George County, Virginia, in close proximity to the largest fleet concentration area in the Navy. NSWCDD is part of the Naval Surface Warfare Centers under the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). NSWCDD was initially established 16 October 1918 as a remote extension of Maryland's Indian Head Proving Ground used for testing naval guns. The Dahlgren site was named the Lower Station, Dahlgren Naval Proving Ground when it first opened. Caledon Natural Area
Caledon State Park is a state park located in King George, Virginia. As of 2010, the yearly visitation was 49,328. The property was initially owned by the Alexander brothers, founders of the city of Alexandria, and was established in 1659 as Caledon Plantation. Ownership passed, in 1974, to the Commonwealth of Virginia. A portion of the park known as the Caledon Natural Area was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974 for its old-growth oak- tulip poplar forest. The park also provides a habitat for bald eagles along the Potomac River. Adjacent to the park is the Chotank Creek Natural Area Preserve, a state-designated private conservation area that further protects bald eagle habitat, in addition to wetlands and other significant communities. State Route 218 (SR 218) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 1 and US 17 Business in Falmouth east to SR 205 in Tetotum. SR 218 connects suburban communities in Stafford County east of Fredericksburg with rural areas in northern and eastern King George County. Most of SR 218 in King George County is a Virginia Byway.
