State Route 159 (SR 159) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Dunlap Creek Road, the state highway runs from Route 311 (Virginia – West Virginia), SR 311 at Crows, Virginia, Crows north to Interstate 64 in Virginia, Interstate 64 (I-64) and U.S. Route 60 in Virginia, U.S. Route 60 (US 60) at Callaghan, Virginia, Callaghan. SR 159 forms part of the old alignment of US 60 in western Alleghany County, Virginia, Alleghany County. All of SR 159 is a Virginia Byway. Route description SR 159 begins at a wye (rail), wye intersection with SR 311 (Kanawha Trail) in the hamlet of Crows in southwestern Alleghany County. U.S. Route 60 (US 60) in the Commonwealth of Virginia runs west to east through the central part of the state, generally close to and paralleling the Interstate 64 corridor, except for the crossing of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and in the South Hampton Roads area. Between Lexington in the Shenandoah Valley and Richmond, I-64 uses a lower elevation crossing of the Blue Ridge Mountains located about further north, where it runs parallel to U.S. Route 250 through Rockfish Gap. In contrast, through this section, the older US 60 is mostly a rural two-lane road. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. A diamond interchange is a common type of road junction, used where a controlled-access highway crosses a minor road. Design The freeway itself is grade-separated from the minor road, one crossing the other over a bridge. Approaching the interchange from either direction, an off-ramp diverges only slightly from the freeway and runs directly across the minor road, becoming an on-ramp that returns to the freeway in similar fashion.
