Violet-class Destroyer
The ''Violet'' class destroyer was a class of two destroyers that served in the British Royal Navy. and were built by William Doxford & Sons in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, Sunderland. They were fitted with Thornycroft boilers which generated 6,300 HP and produced the demanded of these three funnelled C class destroyer (1913), C-class destroyers. They were armed with the standard QF 12 pounder 12 cwt naval gun, 12-pounder gun and two torpedo tubes, and carried a complement of 63 officers and men. Both ships served through the Great War and were broken up shortly afterwards. References

William Doxford & Sons
William Doxford & Sons Ltd, often referred to simply as Doxford, was a British shipbuilding and marine engineering company. History William Doxford founded the company in 1840. From 1870 it was based in Pallion, Sunderland, on the River Wear in Northeast England. The Company was managed by William Doxford's four sons following his death in 1882. It was acquired by Northumberland Shipbuilding Company in 1918. It was renamed ''Doxford & Sunderland Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd'' in 1961 and ''Doxford & Sunderland Ltd'' in 1966. Court Line took it over in 1972 and renamed it ''Sunderland Shipbuilders Ltd''. In the 1970s a new all-weather Pallion yard was built which could build two ships of up to 30,000 tons deadweight side-by-side. Three-drum boilers are a class of water-tube boiler used to generate steam, typically to power ships. They are compact and of high evaporative power, factors that encourage this use. Other boiler designs may be more efficient, although bulkier, and so the three-drum pattern was rare as a land-based stationary boiler. A torpedo tube is a cylindrical device for launching torpedoes. There are two main types of torpedo tube: underwater tubes fitted to submarines and some surface ships, and deck-mounted units (also referred to as torpedo launchers) installed aboard surface vessels. C Class Destroyer (1913)
The C class as designated in 1913 was a heterogeneous group of torpedo boat destroyers (TBDs) built for the Royal Navy in the late-1890s. They were constructed to the individual designs of their builders to meet Admiralty specifications. The uniting feature of the class was a top speed of 30 knots, a "turtleback" forecastle and that they all had three funnels. The funnels were spaced equidistantly and were of equal height, but the central one was thicker. In 1913 all "30 knotter" vessels with 3 funnels were classified by the Admiralty as the "C" class to provide some system to the naming of HM destroyers (at the same time, the 4-funnelled, "30 knotters" became the "B" class and the 2-funnelled ships the "D" class).
