Vinovo ( pms, Vineuv) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about southwest of Turin. Vinovo is home to the training ground of Serie A football team Juventus. The Della Rovere Castle hosts the campus of St. John International University, a private American University. History The city has enjoyed a relatively long history, with roots going back to ancient times. In fact, remains dating from the fifth century AD have been found in this area, and the oldest historical documents date back to 1040. The Juventus Training Center (colloquially known as "the Vinovo") is a football training facility owned by Juventus, located in Vinovo a ''comune'' 14 kilometres southwest of the city of Turin. Designed by GAU and Shesa, the training ground features modern facilities and was opened in August 2006. The facility measures a total of 162,900 square meters and originally cost € 12.5 million. Domenico Della Rovere
Domenico della Rovere (1442 – 23 April 1501) was an Italian cardinal and patron of the arts. Life He was born at Vinovo, near Turin, and was not a relative of Pope Sixtus IV (Francesco Della Rovere), who, however, favoured him in the hope of establishing a link between his humble Ligurian family and that of the Piedmontese counts of Vinovo. In 1478 he was appointed as Bishop of Tarantaise succeeding his brother, Cristoforo. In the same year, on 10 February, he was created cardinal of San Vitale by Sixtus IV (one year later he exchanged the title with that of San Clemente). Also in 1478 he received the title of bishop of Montefiascone and Corneto, which he kept until his death. Stupinigi, with some 200 inhabitants, is today a ''hamlet'' of the comune of Nichelino, in the Metropolitan City of Turin (Piedmont, north-west Italy). Nichelino ( pms, Ël Niclin) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about southwest of Turin. Nichelino borders the following municipalities: Turin, Orbassano, Beinasco, Moncalieri, Candiolo, and Vinovo. History In 1559 Nichelino was a fief of the Ussel (Occelli) family, becoming a county in 1564. In the late 17th century it has some 400 inhabitants, mostly working as peasants. In 1854, when it had some 1,700 inhabitants, the first train station was built in the town. Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (; 9 or 10 October 1813 – 27 January 1901) was an Italian composer best known for his operas. He was born near Busseto to a provincial family of moderate means, receiving a musical education with the help of a local patron.
