Vino Noharathalingam
Subramanyam Noharathalingam ( ta, சுப்பிரமணியம் நோகராதலிங்கம், translit=Cuppiramaṇiyam Nōkarātaliṅkam; born 7 June 1963), commonly known as Vino Noharathalingam, is a Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Tamil politician and Member of Parliament (Sri Lanka), Member of Parliament. Early life Noharathalingam was born on 7 June 1963. Career Noharathalingam contested the 2000 Sri Lankan parliamentary election, 2000 parliamentary election as one of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO)'s candidates in Vanni Electoral District, Vanni District and was elected to the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Parliament. On 20 October 2001 the All Ceylon Tamil Congress, Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front, TELO and Tamil United Liberation Front formed the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). 2010 Sri Lankan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 8 and 20 April 2010, to elect 225 members to Sri Lanka's 14th Parliament. 14,088,500 Sri Lankans were eligible to vote in the election at 11,102 polling stations. It was the first general election held in Sri Lanka following the conclusion of the civil war which lasted 26 years. The main parties contesting in the election were the party of Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse, the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), the main opposition United National Front (UNF) and the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) of Sarath Fonseka. President Rajapakse was previously reelected as president in January 2010. As expected, the UPFA secured a landslide victory in the elections, buoyed by its achievement of ending the 30 year Sri Lankan Civil War by defeating the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in May 2009. Shri (; , ) is a Sanskrit term denoting resplendence, wealth and prosperity, primarily used as an honorific. ''Ceylon Today'' is an English language Sri Lankan daily newspaper published by Ceylon Newspapers (Private) Limited. It was founded in 2011 and is published from Colombo. Its sister newspaper is the ''Mawbima''. Ceylon Newspapers (Private) Limited is owned by politician Tiran Alles Tiran Alles, MP is a Sri Lankan businessman and politician. 2020 Sri Lankan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 5 August 2020 to elect 225 members to Sri Lanka's 16th Parliament. 16,263,885 people were eligible to vote in the election, 31.95% of whom were young voters. The incumbent Sri Lanka People's Freedom Alliance coalition claimed a landslide victory in the election, winning 145 seats, while Samagi Jana Balawegaya won 54 seats, Tamil National Alliance won 10 seats and National People's Power won 3 seats. The main opposition United National Party suffered the worst showing in its history following a split over party leadership, finishing in fourth place with only one seat. The election was postponed at least twice due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, before the date was finalized as 5 August 2020.
