Vinje, Iowa
Vinje is an unincorporated community in Logan Township, Winnebago County, Iowa, United States. Vinje was founded by Norwegian settlers and is the site of an 1880 church. Geography Vinje is located along county highways A16 and R50, west of Scarville. History Vinje was founded by Norwegian settlers, and the name Vinje is of Norwegian origin. The post office in Vinje was established in 1894. Circa 1900, Vinje was home to the Vinje Creamery Association. The milk station was consolidated into the Thompson Cooperative Creamery in 1897. The Vinje post office was discontinued in 1907. Vinje's decline occurred because — like other communities such as Ratna, Tweten, and Delano — it did not have rail access, a fact noted by county historians in 1917. Career In 1858 Vinje founded the periodical '' Dølen'' (''The dales-man''), in which he published travel accounts and editorial comments on art, language and politics that serve as records for the period in which he lived. ''Dølen'' ceased publication in 1870. Vinje did much to articulate the difference between urban and rural life in Norway and was among the sophisticated exponents of Norwegian romantic nationalism. Vinje Pri Moravčah
Vinje pri Moravčah (; german: Swine) is a small settlement in the Municipality of Moravče in central Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Upper Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. The settlement includes the hamlet of Rožek.Savnik, Roman, ed. 1971. ''Krajevni leksikon Slovenije'', vol. 2. Ljubljana: Državna založba Slovenije, p. 109. Name The Slovene name of the settlement was originally ''Svinje'' (sometimes ''Svine''). The name was first attested in written sources in 1260 as ''Sweinz'' (and as ''Swinak'' in 1329, ''Zwinack'' in 1348, and ''Swein'' in 1439). The name ''Svinje'' is believed to derive from the Slovene common noun ''svinja'' 'pig', referring to the fact that pigs were raised in the settlement. An alternate theory suggests that the name was derived from ''So-vine'' 'group of vineyards'. The name was changed from ''Svinje'' to ''Vinje pri Moravčah'' (evoking 'wine') as an ...
