Vines High School
W. A. Vines High School (commonly Vines or VHS) is a free co-educational secondary school in Plano, Texas (USA) serving grades nine and ten. Wilson and Haggard middle schools feed into Vines. Founded in 1976, the school is part of the Plano Independent School District, which is accredited by the Texas Education Agency. The school colors are maroon and white, and the school mascot is the Wildcat. Vines is one of six high schools in PISD, and is one of two that feed into Plano Senior High School. History Vines High School opened in 1976 and was built on the former farmland of William Asa Vines for $3.3 million. Plano, Texas
Plano ( ) is a city in Collin County, Texas, Collin County and Denton County, Texas, United States. It had a population of 285,494 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. It is a principal city of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. History European settlers came to the area near present-day Plano in the early 1840s. Facilities such as a sawmill, a gristmill, and a store soon brought more people to the area. A mail service was established, and after rejecting several names for the nascent town (including naming it in honor of then-President Millard Fillmore), residents suggested the name ''Plano'' (from the Spanish word for "flat") in reference to the local terrain, unvaried and devoid of any trees. World History (field)
World history or global history as a field of historical study examines history from a global perspective. It emerged centuries ago; leading practitioners have included Voltaire (1694–1778), Hegel (1770–1831), Karl Marx (1818–1883) and Arnold J. Toynbee (1889–1975). William Asa Vines
William Asa "W.A." Vines (born May 6, 1853, in Troy, Alabama), a son of Chesley Daniel Vines and Elizabeth Matheny. He was orphaned as a boy and worked for two years in order to earn his passages to Texas by wagon train. Late, he hired himself out as a farmhand for more than 13 years before saving enough money to buy his own land. Vines married Martha Caroline Welch and had five children. Vines and his family eventually moved to Plano. Later, Vines went on to be the director of Plano National Bank. His wife, Martha, died in 1911. Vines died in 1929 at the age of 76. Wildcat
The wildcat is a species complex comprising two small wild cat species: the European wildcat (''Felis silvestris'') and the African wildcat (''F. lybica''). Haggard Middle School
Plano Independent School District (PISD or Plano ISD) is an independent school district in southwestern Collin County, Texas, based in Plano. Plano ISD serves about of land, with of it within the City of Plano. The district also takes students from northern portions of Dallas and Richardson, and portions of Allen, Carrollton, Garland, Lucas, Murphy, Parker, and Wylie.
