Vincent Cantoni
Vincent Cantoni (Laguiole, 10 March 1927 – Grenade, 28 October 2013) was a French rugby league footballer who represented France national rugby league team in the 1954 World Cup. He was the father of the French former rugby union international Jack Cantoni Jack Cantoni (11 May 1948 – 25 June 2013) was a French international rugby union player. Cantoni was born in Carmaux, France, he is the son of the rugby league footballer; Vincent Cantoni. Cantoni played as a Fullback or Wing for AS Bé .... Laguiole (; ''La Guiòla'' in Languedocien) is a commune in the Aveyron department in southern France. It is known for its Laguiole cheese, which has an ''Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée'' (label of guaranteed origin), and as the birthplace of the Laguiole knife. 1951 French Rugby League Tour Of Australia And New Zealand
The 1951 French rugby league tour of Australia and New Zealand was the first ever tour of Australasia by any French sports team in history. Puig Aubert captained the France national rugby league team who played 28 matches in total in both Australia and New Zealand, winning 21 of them in what is regarded as the high point in the history of rugby league in France. The Australian Test series resulted in a 2–1 victory to France; however, the tourists then lost their match against the New Zealand national rugby league team. Welcoming the team home to Marseille, more than 150,000 people turned out for a street parade. Jack Cantoni (11 May 1948 – 25 June 2013) was a French international rugby union player. Cantoni was born in Carmaux, France, he is the son of the rugby league footballer; Vincent Cantoni. Cantoni played as a Fullback (rugby union), Fullback or Wing (rugby union), Wing for AS Béziers Hérault, AS Béziers, with which team he won seven top 14, French championships. 1954 Rugby League World Cup
The 1954 Rugby League World Cup was rugby league football's first World Cup and was held in France in October–November 1954. Officially known as the "Rugby World Cup", SPARC, 2009: 28 four nations competed in the tournament: Australia, France, Great Britain and New Zealand. A group stage was held first, with Great Britain topping the table as a result of points difference. They went on to defeat France (who finished second in the table, level on points) in the final, which was held at Paris' Parc des Princes before 30,368 spectators. The prime instigators behind the idea of holding a rugby league world cup were the French, who were short of money following the seizing of their assets by French rugby union in the Second World War. The first rugby league world cup was an unqualified success.
