Vimmerby Parish
Vimmerby () is a city and the seat of Vimmerby Municipality, Kalmar County, Sweden with 10,934 inhabitants in 2010. Overview Stångån is a small river running through the city. Vimmerby had its charter as early as the fourteenth century. The main street, ''Storgatan'', still has the shape in which it was built in the medieval time. There are also many old wooden houses in the city. Vimmerby is currently a tourist attraction due to historical links with Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002). The Astrid Lindgren's World is a theme park for children that has themes from her books, and is visited by fans from around the world. When Astrid Lindgren wrote her books about the country boy Emil of Lönneberga she used much information from her own upbringing in the rural areas of Vimmerby. Astrid Lindgren's World
Astrid Lindgren's World ( sv, Astrid Lindgrens värld) is a theme park located in Astrid Lindgren's native city Vimmerby, Sweden. It was opened in 1981 as a Fairytale Village (Sagobyn). In 1981, they built Katthult. the first house together on a 1:3 scale. Over the years, more settings were added all built on a 1:3 scale. In its 180,000 square metres, visitors meet all the beloved characters from books by Astrid Lindgren. All the environments are built as prescribed in the books and they give child visitors the possibility to enter into the stories of ''Pippi Longstocking'', ''Emil i Lönneberga'', ''Karlsson-on-the-Roof'', and many others of Astrid Lindgren's beloved characters. Joniškis (; Samogitian language, Samogitian: ''Juonėškis'') is a town in northern Lithuania with a population of about 9,900. Vimmerby IF, founded in 1919, is a Sweden, Swedish association Football, football club located in Vimmerby in Kalmar County. VIF won the 2009–10 Swedish Futsal Championship and are Sweden's representative in the 2010–11 UEFA Futsal Cup. Background Since their foundation Vimmerby IF has participated mainly in the middle and lower divisions of the Swedish football league system. Thomas Ravelli
Thomas Ravelli (; born 13 August 1959) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. His 21-year professional career was almost exclusively associated with Öster and Göteborg, for whom he appeared in a combined 416 Allsvenskan games. The most-capped player for the Sweden national team for several years, Ravelli represented the nation at the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cups, and UEFA Euro 1992. Club career Ravelli was born in Västervik, but grew up in Vimmerby where he lived his first five years of life.
