Villard Point
Villard Point is a point projecting 500 m into Barclay Bay from Robbery Beaches on Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and forming the east side of the entrance to Baba Tonka Cove and the west side of the entrance to Kukuzel Cove. The point was named in 1971 by the Chilean Antarctic Expedition following geological work in the area, probably after a member of the expedition. Location The point is located at which is 1.19 km east-southeast of Varadero Point and 1.16 km west-northwest of Lair Point (British mapping in 1968, Chilean mapping in 1971, detailed Spanish mapping in 1992, and Bulgarian mapping in 2005, 2009 and 2017). Varadero Point
Varadero Point is a point projecting 620 m into Barclay Bay from Robbery Beaches on Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and forming the west side of the entrance to Baba Tonka Cove. Dominated by Varadero Hill (116 m). The point is named descriptively ('Boathouse Point') from being an area where icebergs get stranded. Beau Riffenburgh (born 1955) is an author and historian specializing in polar exploration. He is also an American football coach and author of books on football history. Early career A native of California, Riffenburgh was the Senior Writer and Director of Research for National Football League Properties in the eighties and early nineties. While there, he wrote or edited seven books, including the NFL's official encyclopedia. He served briefly as Editor-in-Chief for Total Sports Publishing. Lair Point is a point projecting 570 m into Barclay Bay from Robbery Beaches on Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and forming the east side of the entrance to Kukuzel Cove. Dominated by Lair Hill (96 m). The point is named descriptively from a large cave on the point used by the early 19th century sealers, relics of whose occupation were found by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1957–58.
