''Villains'' is a crime drama series, shown in the UK in 1972, following the linked fates of nine bank robbers, led by George (David Daker). It begins with the nine men meeting in prison during their appeal and traces each individual after the group escape from custody. London Weekend Television (LWT) (now part of the non-franchised ITV London region) was the ITV network franchise holder for Greater London and the Home Counties at weekends, broadcasting from Fridays at 5.15 pm (7:00 pm from 1968 until 1982) to Monday mornings at 6:00. From 1968 until 1992, when LWT's weekday counterpart was Thames Television, there was an on-screen handover to LWT on Friday nights (there was no handover back to Thames on Mondays, as from 1968 to 1982 there was no programming in the very early morning, and from 1983, when a national breakfast franchise was created, LWT would hand over to TV-am at 6:00am, which would then hand over to Thames at 9:25am). Martin Shaw (born 21 January 1945) is an English actor. He came to national recognition as Doyle in ITV (TV network), ITV crime-action television drama series ''The Professionals (TV series), The Professionals'' (1977–1983). Further notable television parts include the title roles in ''The Chief (UK TV series), The Chief'' (1993–1995), ''Judge John Deed'' (2001–2007) and ''Inspector George Gently'' (2007–2017).
