Valmarana
The Valmarana family is an aristocratic family in Vicenza, one branch of which also held Venetian patrician status. Its motto was "Plus Ultra" (Further). They were named after the village of Valmarana (now part of Altavilla Vicentina) in the Berici Hills, where they held fiefs from the bishop of Vicenza. Antonio Canova, Giovanni Mantese, ''I castelli medioevali del Vicentino'', Vicenza, Accademia Olimpica, 1979, p. 76, .. History According to legend, the family was descended from the ancient Roman Maria gens. In 1031 they were made counts by Conrad II, Holy Roman Emperor. Francesco Schröeder''Repertorio genealogico delle famiglie confermate nobili e dei titolati nobili esistenti nelle Provincie Venete'' Vol. 2, Venezia, Tipografia di Alvisopoli, 1830, pp. 341-343. On 30 April 1540 Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor issued a special diploma making them counts palatine of Nogara. Their title of count was also recognised by the Republic of Venice. Villa Valmarana (Vigardolo)
Villa Valmarana (also known as Valmarana Bressan) is a patrician villa at Vigardolo, Monticello Conte Otto, in the province of Vicenza, in northern Italy. The building is attributed to Andrea Palladio on the basis of an extant drawing of the villa that is undoubtedly by the architect. The villa was constructed during the 1540s, and is one of Palladio's earlier works. It was commissioned by two cousins of the Valmarana family. The layout of the rooms suggests that Palladio's mandate was to provide accommodation for two nuclear families. The design also shows the influence of buildings from antiquity, which Palladio had seen on his first visit to Rome in 1541. The villa is decorated with frescoes, some of which date from the 16th century; they are more or less contemporaneous with the original occupation of the building. In 1996, UNESCO included the building in the World Heritage Site A World Heritage Site is a landmark or area with legal protection by an international c ...

Villa Valmarana (Lisiera)
The Villa Valmarana (also known as Valmarana Scagnolari Zen) is a Renaissance villa situated in Lisiera, a locality of Bolzano Vicentino, province of Vicenza, northern Italy. Designed by Andrea Palladio, it was originally built in the 1560s for the Valmarana family. The villa was nearly totally destroyed during World War II, but has been rebuilt. Even before the war damage, the building did not closely resemble the plan which Palladio published in his ''I quattro libri dell'architettura'' (''The Four Books of Architecture'') of 1570, possibly because Gianfrancesco Valmarana, the architect's client, died while his house was being built. Villa Capra "La Rotonda"
Villa La Rotonda is a Renaissance villa just outside Vicenza in northern Italy designed by Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. The villa's correct name is Villa Almerico Capra Valmarana, but it is also known as "La Rotonda", "Villa Rotonda", "Villa Capra", and "Villa Almerico Capra". The name ''Capra'' derives from the Capra brothers, who completed the building after it was ceded to them in 1592. Along with other works by Palladio, the building is conserved as part of the World Heritage Site "City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto". Inspiration In 1565 a priest, Paolo Almerico, on his retirement from the Vatican (as referendario apostolico of Pope Pius IV and afterwards Pius V), decided to return to his home town of Vicenza in the Venetian countryside and build a country house. This house, later known as 'La Rotonda', was to be one of Palladio's best-known legacies to the architectural world. Villa Capra may have inspired a thousand subsequent buildin ...

Villa Valmarana Morosini
A villa is a type of house that was originally an ancient Roman upper class country house. Since its origins in the Roman villa, the idea and function of a villa have evolved considerably. After the fall of the Roman Republic, villas became small farming compounds, which were increasingly fortified in Late Antiquity, sometimes transferred to the Church for reuse as a monastery. Then they gradually re-evolved through the Middle Ages into elegant upper-class country homes. In the Early Modern period, any comfortable detached house with a garden near a city or town was likely to be described as a villa; most survivals have now been engulfed by suburbia. In modern parlance, "villa" can refer to various types and sizes of residences, ranging from the suburban semi-detached double villa to, in some countries, especially around the Mediterranean, residences of above average size in the countryside. Roman Roman villas included: * the ''villa urbana'', a suburban or country sea ...
