Villa Duchesne is an independent, Roman Catholic school in Frontenac, Missouri, United States linked with 147 schools in 30 countries through the International Network of Sacred Heart Schools. Villa Duchesne is coed in preschool and elementary and all-girls in grades 7-12. The preschool/elementary program was formerly called Oak Hill School. It was named for Sister Rose Philippine Duchesne. Sport Villa Duchesne sports include field hockey, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, golf, basketball, swimming and diving, cross country, and track and field. In 2010, Villa Duchesne won the MSHSAA golf state championship. Villa Duchesne is also well known for its field hockey program, and the St. Joseph's vs. Villa Duchesne field hockey game is a popular rivalry game. Frontenac is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,612 at the 2020 census. The community name is inspired by the New France governor Louis de Buade de Frontenac. Benjamin and Lora Wood, who laid out the community's core called Frontenac Estates, that consisted of 26 two-acre estates, had made frequent trips to Quebec. The community was incorporated as in 1947 and annexed another in 1948. The community still consists mostly of houses on one-acre lots. French architecture is encouraged in design. Rose Philippine Duchesne, RCSJ (August 29, 1769 – November 18, 1852), was a French religious sister and educator whom Pope John Paul II canonized in 1988. She is the only fully canonized female Roman Catholic saint to share a feast day with the Dedication of Saints Peter and Paul on November 18th. A native of France, she immigrated as a missionary to America, and is recognized for her care and education of Indigenous American survivors of the United States Indian removal programs. Along with the founder, Madeleine-Sophie Barat, she was an early member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, and established the congregation's first communities in the United States. She spent the last half of her life teaching and serving the people of the Midwestern United States, which was at that time considered the western frontier of the nation.
