Viljandi Folk Music Festival
__NOTOC__ The Viljandi Folk Music Festival is a music festival in Estonia with a central focus on European folk music. It is traditionally held during the last weekend of July, when the otherwise quiet city of Viljandi is completely transformed as the small city center is suddenly flooded with people. The main attraction of the festival is the friendly atmosphere. Over 25,000 people attend the concerts every year, but many more just come to take part in the festivities. Atalyja
Atalyja (“The rain is coming”) is a Lithuanian folk-rock music band. It focuses on the popularization of archaic Lithuanian folklore and bringing ancient songs closer to contemporary audiences. The band has produced songs of a big variety of musical styles, a broad tonal palette and unique arrangements. The ancient melodies are enriched with elements of rock, jazz, funk, blues rock, metal and Indian music. Atalyja regularly participates in music festivals and fests. The band has released 4 CD albums and has given performances in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Germany, Turkey, Czechia Belarus and Russia. Altan are an Irish folk music band formed in County Donegal in 1987 by lead vocalist Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and her husband Frankie Kennedy. The group were primarily influenced by traditional Irish language songs from Donegal and have sold over a million records. Mary Youngblood (Aleut/Seminole) is a Native American musician, and performer of the Native American flute. Life and career Mary Youngblood was born in Kirkland, Washington, and adopted as a child by Dr. Bob and Leah Edwards, both educators. She has been awarded three Native American Music Awards, being the first female artist to win "Flutist of the Year," which she won in both 1999 and 2000, as well as winning "Best Female Artist" in 2000. She is also the first Native American woman to have received a Grammy Award for "Best Native American Music Album", and the first Native American woman to have won two Grammys, the first for '' Beneath the Raven Moon'' in 2002 and ''Dance with the Wind'' in 2006.
