Viliam Figuš-Bystrý
Viliam Figuš-Bystrý (born Viliam Figuš) (28 February 1875 – 11 May 1937) was a Slovak composer, teacher and author of the first Slovak national opera '' Detvan''. Viliam Figuš was born in Banská Bystrica. He attended gymnasium from 1885 to 1889 and teacher's institute in Banská Štiavnica from 1889 to 1893. After graduating, he worked as a teacher in Pilis, Ostrá Lúka, Zvolenská Slatina, Padina. In 1907, he settled in Banská Bystrica, where he taught at Lutheran school. From 1911 to 1914, he studied under Zoltán Kodály at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. While teaching in various towns, he collected folksongs and published their adaptations in a few collections (''Slovenské ľudové piesne z Veľkej Slatiny'', ''1000 slovenských ľudových piesní'', ''Púchovské piesne'', ''Zbojnícke piesne''). Viliam Hýravý (born 26 November 1962, in Ružomberok) is a Slovak football player. He played on the position of left defender. He played for Czechoslovakia, for whom he played 11 matches. He was a participant in the 1990 FIFA World Cup. On the club level he played for BZ Ružomberok, ZVL Zilina, Dukla Banska Bystrica and Czech club Baník Ostrava. Viliam Judák
Viliam Judák (born 9 November 1957 in Nová Bystrica, Harvelka) is the diocesan Bishop of Nitra, Slovakia. He was a priest in Nitra, where he gained a Doctor of Theology, Th.D. in 1991, and was then was seminary rector of St. Gorazd in Nitra (1996–2001) and then dean of Comenius University in Bratislava (2001–2004). He is an academic with specialties in Christianity, Christian antiquity and the Middle Ages, medieval Slovaks, Slovak church history and is the author of several monographs in the field of church history, and many books, articles and publications. He speaks German and Italian. He was Ordination, ordained on 16 June 1985 in Nitra, and made bishop by Pope Benedict XVI on 9 June 2005. Viliam Schrojf
Viliam Schrojf (2 August 1931 – 1 September 2007) was a Slovak footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He received 39 caps for Czechoslovakia. Career Schrojf was a participant at the three consecutive World Cups 1954 FIFA World Cup, 1958 FIFA World Cup and at the 1962 FIFA World Cup, where Czechoslovakia surprised the world and went through to the final, losing to champions Brazil. The success of Czechoslovakia was largely attributed to Schrojf's superb performance. The final however proved to be a black day for Schrojf, with two Brazilian goals resulting from his mistakes. With his country leading 1–0, he expected a cross from Amarildo and left the goal, allowing the Brazilian to score from an acute angle. Viliam Široký
Viliam Široký (31 May 1902 – 6 October 1971) was a prominent Communist politician of Czechoslovakia, the prime minister from 1953 to 1963. He also served as the leader of the Communist Party of Slovakia between 1945 and 1954. Biography Široký was born in to the family of railroad workers. According to the French historian Muriel Blaive, he was an ethnic Hungarian. He joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia at the age of 19 and quickly rose in the party apparatus after the election of Klement Gottwald as general secretary. Together with Václav Kopecký, Široký were agents of the Soviet NKVD, whose task was to inform the Moscow leadership mainly about Gottwald's activities. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly of Czechoslovakia and prior to the start of the Second World War he was elected secretary of the Communist Party of Slovakia.
