Vikram Adve
Vikram Adve (born 28 June 1966) is the Donald B. Gillies professor in the Department of Computer Science and a Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Academia In 2020, Vikram Adve is a co-founder and co-director of the Center for Digital Agriculture and leads AIFARMS, a $20M National Artificial Intelligence Research Institute funded by NIFA and NSF at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Vikram Adve, along with Chris Lattner, designed and developed the LLVM compiler infrastructure project in 2001. Vikram Adve and Chris Lattner received the 2012 ACM Software System Award for the LLVM software system. Vikram Adve's research interests include compilers and programming languages, and edge computing, approximate computing, software security, system reliability, and parallel programming. Approximate Computing
Approximate computing is an emerging paradigm for energy-efficient and/or high-performance design. It includes a plethora of computation techniques that return a possibly inaccurate result rather than a guaranteed accurate result, and that can be used for applications where an approximate result is sufficient for its purpose. One example of such situation is for a search engine where no exact answer may exist for a certain search query and hence, many answers may be acceptable. Similarly, occasional dropping of some frames in a video application can go undetected due to perceptual limitations of humans.
