Vijay Anand (filmmaker)
Vijay Anand (22 January 1934 – 23 February 2004), also known as Goldie Anand, was an Indian filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, editor and actor, who is known for acclaimed films such as ''Guide'' (1965), '' Teesri Manzil'' (1966), ''Jewel Thief'' (1967) and ''Johny Mera Naam'' (1970). He made most of his films for the in-house banner Navketan Films and was part of the Anand family. Background and personal life Vijay Anand was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, India, the son of Pishori Lal Anand, a successful and affluent advocate. He was the youngest of nine siblings. The producer and director Chetan Anand and the celebrated actor Dev Anand were his brothers, and among his sister was Sheel Kanta Kapur, mother of film director Shekhar Kapur. Gurdaspur is a city in the India, Indian state of Punjab, India, Punjab, between the rivers Beas River, Beas and Ravi River, Ravi. Guide (1965 Film)
''Guide'' is a 1965 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Vijay Anand and produced by Dev Anand, who co-starred in the film with Waheeda Rehman. Based on R. K. Narayan's 1958 novel ''The Guide'', the film narrates the story of the freelance guide Raju (Anand) and his meeting with Rosie (Rehman), who is the wife of a wealthy archaeologist. A 120-minute U.S. version titled ''The Guide'' was written by Pearl S. Buck and directed and produced by Tad Danielewski. For the US version, Devanand had insisted that Waheeda Rehman be cast as a heroine, but his advice was not heeded to. This version flopped badly in America. The film was then screened again at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, 42 years after its release. ''Kala Bazar'' () is a 1960 Hindi crime film produced by Dev Anand for Navketan Films. Written and directed by Dev's younger brother Vijay Anand (Hindi film maker), Vijay Anand, the film starred Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Vijay Anand, Chetan Anand (director), Chetan Anand, Nanda (actress), Nanda, Rashid Khan (actor), Rashid Khan, Madan Puri, Leela Chitnis, Mumtaz Begum (actor), Mumtaz Begum and Helen (actress), Helen. ''Nau Do Gyarah'' (; the Hindi idiom means "to run away") is a 1957 Indian Hindi-language comedy thriller film produced by Dev Anand. It also classifies as a road movie. This was his brother, Vijay Anand's directorial debut. The film stars Dev Anand, Kalpana Kartik, Madan Puri, Shashikala and Jeevan. The film's music is by S. D. Shekhar Kulbhushan Kapur (born 6 December 1945) is an Indian filmmaker and actor. Born into the Anand-Sahni family, Kapur is the recipient of several accolades, including a BAFTA Award, a National Film Award, a National Board of Review Award and three Filmfare Awards, in addition to nomination for a Golden Globe Award. Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand (26 September 1923 – 3 December 2011), better known as Dev Anand, was an Indian actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema, through a career that spanned over six decades. He was one of the most successful actors of Indian cinema and a part of "Trinity- The Golden Trio" along with Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contribution to Indian cinema. He has won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor twice and Filmfare's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993. Chetan Anand (3 January 1921 – 6 July 1997) was a Hindi film producer, screenwriter and director from India, whose debut film, ''Neecha Nagar'', was awarded the Grand Prix Prize (Now Golden Palm) at the first ever Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Later he co-founded Navketan Films with his younger brother Dev Anand in 1949. Gurdaspur district is a district in the Majha region of the state of Punjab, India. Gurdaspur is the district headquarters. It internationally borders Narowal District of Pakistani Punjab, and the districts of Amritsar, Pathankot, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur. Two main rivers Beas and Ravi passes through the district. Navketan Films
Navketan Films was a film production house based in Mumbai, India. Started in 1949 by actor-director and producer Dev Anand and his elder brother Chetan Anand, whose debut film, ''Neecha Nagar'', received the Palme d'Or (Best Film) award, at the first ever Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Younger brother Vijay Anand, also directed numerous films for the company, like ''Guide'' (1965), ''Jewel Thief'' (1967) and ''Johny Mera Naam'' (1970). Chetan and Vijay parted ways with company later and today Dev's son Suneil Anand is currently heading the production house. The last film released by Navketan films was Chargesheet in 2011 and since then this production house has not produced any more films and is no longer active.
