The Green League (VIHR, fi, Vihreä liitto , sv, Gröna förbundet), shortened to the Greens ( fi, Vihreät, sv, De Gröna), is a green political party in Finland. Ideologically, the Green League is positioned on the centre-left of the political spectrum. It is a reformist party and it is supportive of feminism, animal rights and green liberal ideas. Originally split on whether Finland should join the European Union, the Green League is pro-European and was the first Finnish party in favor of the federalisation of the European Union. The Green League is among the large political parties in Finland. The Greens hold twenty of the 200 seats in the Finnish Parliament and three of Finland's 14 European Parliament seats. Maria Ohisalo
Maria Karoliina Ohisalo (born 8 March 1985) is a Finnish politician and researcher who served as Minister of the Interior between 2019 and 2021. The leader of the Green League, she has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. Ohisalo served as the Green League's interim leader after Touko Aalto stepped down in September 2018. She was the only candidate in the Green League leadership election which was held in June 2019. She co-chaired the Union of Green Youth and Students from 2013 to 2014 and has been a member of the Helsinki City Council since 2017 and an MP since 2019. The Federation of Green Youth and Students (''Vihreiden nuorten ja opiskelijoiden liitto ry'' (ViNO) in Finnish or ''De gröna unga och studerandenas förbund'' in Swedish) is a political youth organization in Finland. Iiris Suomela
Iiris Suomela (born 1 May 1994) is a Finnish politician currently serving in the Parliament of Finland for the Green League at the Pirkanmaa constituency. She is also a member of the Board of the student union of the University of Tampere. While the elected leader of the Green League, Maria Ohisalo, is on parental leave, Suomela is acting as leader of the party. The Global Greens (GG) is an international network of political parties and movements which work to implement the Global Greens Charter. It consists of various national Green political parties, partner networks, and other organizations associated with green politics. Formed in 2001 at the First Global Greens Congress, the network has grown to include 76 full member parties and 11 observers and associate parties as of May 2022, so a total of 87 members.
