Vigra (island)
Vigra is an island in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is located north of the islands of Valderøya and Giske, west of the mainland of Haram Municipality, and southwest of the island of Lepsøya (in Haram). Vigra has a road connection to the mainland via the Vigra Fixed Link, a series of tunnels and bridges that connect all the islands of Giske Municipality to the city of Ålesund to the south. The island was formerly part of Vigra Municipality. The island is fairly flat and barren, although most land has been converted to agricultural uses. The highest point is the tall Molnesfjellet on the north end of the island. The largest population centre on the island is the village of Roald on the northern part of the island, on the southeastern edge of Molnesfjellet. Vigra Church is the only church on the island. Møre Og Romsdal
Møre og Romsdal (; en, Møre and Romsdal) is a county in the northernmost part of Western Norway. It borders the counties of Trøndelag, Innlandet, and Vestland. The county administration is located in the town of Molde, while Ålesund is the largest town. Vigra Church
Vigra Church ( no, Vigra kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Haram Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the island of Vigra, about southwest of the village of Roald. It is the church for the Vigra parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1894 using plans drawn up by the architect Gabriel Smith. The church seats about 500 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to 1432, but the church was not new at that time. The original Vigra Church was a wooden stave church that was located in the village of Roald, about northeast of the present day site of the church. The church was possibly built in the 13th century. Medium Wave
Medium wave (MW) is the part of the medium frequency (MF) radio band used mainly for AM radio broadcasting. The spectrum provides about 120 channels with more limited sound quality than FM stations on the FM broadcast band. During the daytime, reception is usually limited to more local stations, though this is dependent on the signal conditions and quality of radio receiver used. Improved signal propagation at night allows the reception of much longer distance signals (within a range of about 2,000 km or 1,200 miles). This can cause increased interference because on most channels multiple transmitters operate simultaneously worldwide. In addition, amplitude modulation (AM) is often more prone to interference by various electronic devices, especially power supplies and computers. Vigra Transmitter
Vigra transmitter was a transmitter facility for medium wave broadcasting near Vigra in Norway. The Vigra transmitter was inaugurated by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) in . It was used until 1953 for transmission with a T-antenna. This antenna was replaced in 1952/53 by a guyed, steel-tube mast radiator insulated against the earth with a height of 243 metres. In 1999, the height of the mast was reduced for air traffic safety reasons to 232 metres. The Vigra transmitter frequency was 630 kHz with a power of 100 kilowatts, enabling it to be received at night in much of Europe, with the daytime signal taking in Iceland, the Faroes, Shetland and Orkney Islands, Scotland and up to Andøya Island in Norway. Ålesund Airport ( nn, Ålesund lufthamn, ), or alternatively Ålesund Vigra Airport, is an international airport serving the town of Ålesund in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the island of Vigra in Giske Municipality and features a runway aligned 07/25. The airport served 1,077,209 passengers in 2013, making it the tenth-busiest airport in the country. Scheduled services are provided domestically to Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS)¸ Norwegian Air Shuttle and Widerøe. International scheduled services are provided by KLM Cityhopper, Norwegian, SAS and Wizz Air. The first airport serving Ålesund was Ålesund Airport, Sørneset, a water aerodrome. Fish are often caught as wildlife from the natural environment, but may also be caught from stocked bodies of water such as ponds, canals, park wetlands and reservoirs. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. Roald is a village in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The village is located on the northern part of the island Vigra. Vigra
Vigra is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county on the west coast of Norway. The municipality existed from 1890 until its dissolution in 1964 when it was merged into the present-day Giske Municipality. The former municipality was made up of the island of Vigra along with many smaller islets surrounding it. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Roald, and Vigra Church was the main church for the municipality.
