Vigor Industrial (Vigor) is an American shipbuilding, shiprepair, and industrial service provider in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Based in Portland, Oregon, the company consists of several subsidiary companies for a combined total of seven facilities with ten drydocks, more than 17,000 feet of pier space, and over 2,000 employees. History In the Northwest the company history goes back nearly 100 years, with Vigor Shipyards, Todd Pacific in Washington and Kaiser Shipyard in Oregon. In 1916 the Harbor Island facility in Seattle began operations as Vigor Shipyards, Todd Pacific Shipyards. The Port of Portland is the port district responsible for overseeing Portland International Airport, general aviation, and marine activities in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area in the United States. Originally established in 1891 by the 16th Oregon Legislative Assembly, the current incarnation was created by the 1970 legislature, combining the original Port with the Portland Commission of Public Docks, a city agency dating from 1910. The Port of Portland owns four marine terminals, including Oregon's only deep-draft container port, and three airports. ''Willamette Week'' (''WW'') is an alternative weekly newspaper and a website published in Portland, Oregon, United States, since 1974. It features reports on local news, politics, sports, business, and culture. History Early history ''Willamette Week'' was founded in 1974 by Ronald A. Buel, who served as its first publisher. It was later owned by the Eugene ''Register-Guard'', which sold it in the fall of 1983 to Richard H. Meeker and Mark Zusman,Nicholas, Jonathan (January 9, 1984). "Free, and fresh, weekly". ACTUV
The ASW Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) is a DARPA funded project launched in early 2010 to develop an anti-submarine drone (unmanned surface vehicle). ASW is an acronym for Anti-Submarine Warfare. In January 2018 after successful sea trials it was announced that the " Sea Hunter" prototype has transitioned from DARPA to the Office of Naval Research for further development. While the ACTUV program is focused on demonstrating the ASW tracking capability the core platform and autonomy technologies are broadly extendable to underpin a wide range of missions and configurations for future unmanned naval vessels.
