Vietnam, Long Time Coming
''Vietnam, Long Time Coming'' is a 1998 documentary directed by Jerry Blumenthal, Peter Gilbert, and Gordon Quinn and distributed by Kartemquin Films. The film follows a 16-day, 1100 mile bicycle expedition through once war-torn Northern and Southern Vietnam that was organized by World T.E.A.M. Sports. The event drew an array of veterans from the U.S. and Vietnam, as well as celebrity riders like Greg LeMond and Senator John Kerry. Those without use of their legs used special hand-powered bikes, while blind riders pedaled from the back of tandem bikes. Past enemies ride as one team in peace across a landscape they once killed to stay alive on. Peter Gilbert (filmmaker)
Peter Gilbert (born ) is an American documentary filmmaker. He was the cinematographer and one of the producers of ''Hoop Dreams'', a 1994 documentary about two teenage basketball players in Chicago. He has worked on several films for Kartemquin Films, including ''Vietnam, Long Time Coming'', ''At the Death House Door'' (which he co-directed with Steve James), and '' In the Game''. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Exceptional Merit In Nonfiction Filmmaking in 2005 for producing ''With All Deliberate Speed'', a documentary about ''Brown v. Board of Education''. Prior to ''Hoop Dreams'', he worked on the cinematography of '' American Dream'' by Barbara Kopple, and with Haskell Wexler. Shawn Colvin (born Shawna Lee Colvin, January 10, 1956) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. While Colvin has been a solo recording artist for decades, she is best known for her 1998 Grammy Award-winning song "Sunny Came Home". Early life Colvin was born Shawna Lee Colvin in Vermillion, South Dakota, and spent her youth in Carbondale, Illinois and London, Ontario, Canada. She is the second of four children. She learned to play guitar at the age of 10 and grew up listening to her father's collection of music, which included artists such as Pete Seeger and the Kingston Trio. Career Her first paid gig came just after she started college at Southern Illinois University. Colvin performed at local venues in Carbondale and later formed a band.
