The Vienna U-Bahn (german: U-Bahn Wien), where ''U-Bahn'' is an abbreviation of the German term ''Untergrundbahn'' ( en, underground railway), is a rapid transit system serving Vienna, Austria. With the September 2017 opening of the , five-station extension of the U1 line, the five-line U-Bahn network consists of of route, serving 109 stations. U6 (Vienna U-Bahn)
Line U6 is a line on the Vienna U-Bahn. It currently has 24 stations and runs 17.3 km from to . It is connected to at , at and at . The first section of the line opened in 1989, and was completed at its present length in 1996. It is the only metro line in the DACH countries which is not operated by third rail but by overhead wire; this is because the centre portion of the line is an elevated part of the former Vienna Stadtbahn system, which was operated by overhead wire. When the line was transformed to rapid transit standards, it was considered too expensive to rebuild the elevated portion for high-floor trains and third rail, as it was done with the U4. City Airport Train
The City Airport Train (CAT) is an express airport rail link train that connects Vienna International Airport and Vienna city center (Wien Mitte railway station) in 16 minutes without intermediate stops. Basic facts The City Air Terminal Betriebsgesellschaft m.b.H., owned 50.1% by Vienna International Airport, Vienna Airport and 49.9% by Austrian Federal Railways, was founded in 2002 to operate the express train service. Trains run between the airport and Wien Mitte train station daily every half hour from 05:37 am to 23:39 pm. Heiligenstadt, Vienna
Heiligenstadt (in German: ''Wien Heiligenstadt''; Central Bavarian: ''Heiligenstod'') was an independent municipality until 1892 and is today a part of Döbling, the 19th district of Vienna. Siemens & Halske AG (or Siemens-Halske) was a German electrical engineering company that later became part of Siemens. It was founded on 12 October 1847 as ''Telegraphen-Bauanstalt von Siemens & Halske'' by Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske. Joseph Fogerty, CE, FRIBA, was an Irish civil engineer, architect, and novelist active in mid-to-late-nineteenth-century Limerick, London, and Vienna. Emil Winkler (18 April 1835, Falkenberg bei Torgau – 27 August 1888, Berlin) was a German civil engineer, professor with broad academic interest including engineering mechanics, railway engineering, bridge engineering. Emil Winkler was first to formulate and solve a problem of elastic beam on deformable foundation. Karl Ritter von Ghega or Karl von Ghega (10 January 1802 – 14 March 1860) was an Austrian nobleman and the designer of the Semmering Railway from Gloggnitz to Mürzzuschlag.
