Vienna DC Timberwolves
The Vienna Timberwolves, formerly Vienna DC Timberwolves, are an Austrian basketball club based in Wien. Since the 2018–19 season, the Timberwolves play in the Austrian Basketball Superliga (BSL), the highest tier in Austrian basketball. The Timberwolves are three-times Austrian Second League winners. The club was founded on 21 June 1957 as the basketball section of WAT Stadlau, which was established two years earlier. In 1972, the club separated from the WAT Stadlau Omnisport club and became WAT Donaustadt. The first president of the club was Ferdinand Stadelmayer. In the 2014–15 season, the Timberwolves won the 2.ÖBL but was not able to promote as it lost to UBSC Graz in the promotion playoffs. The Austrian Basketball Superliga (English: Basketball Super League) is the highest tier basketball league in Austria. Established in 2019, it replaced the Austrian Basketball Bundesliga (ABL) as the first level competition in the country. The winners of the Superliga are crowned Austrian champions. The competition aims to start "a new era" in Austrian basketball. In its inaugural season, the competition consists of ten teams. The Basketball Zweite Liga (B2L) is the second tier basketball league in Austria. The winners of each season are promoted to the Austrian Basketball Superliga (BSL), if meeting the league requirements. History The second division was founded in 2006–07, but that season just 4 teams participated. After that season the league was divided in three regional divisions. In the 2011–12 season all teams in the league played each other again. Before the start of the 2013–14 season, both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga were formed to leagues with 11 teams. The 2019–20 Austrian Basketball Superliga was the inaugural season of the Basketball Superliga, the newly established top tier league in Austrian basketball. It was the 74th season of the first tier of basketball in Austria. The Kapfenberg Bulls entered the season as the defending national champions winning the 2018–19 ÖBL season. Kapfenberg Bulls, also known simply as Bulls, is a professional basketball club that is based in Kapfenberg, Styria, Austria.
