Victoria Lorne Peta Borwick, Baroness Borwick (''née'' Poore, 26 April 1956) is a British politician. A member of the Conservative Party, she served as the Member of Parliament for Kensington from 2015 to 2017, losing her seat and becoming the first sitting MP for Kensington to lose the seat to an opposition candidate. Baron Borwick, of Hawkshead in the County of Lancaster, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 20 July 1922 for the businessman Sir Robert Borwick, 1st Baronet. He was chairman of George Borwick & Sons Ltd, manufacturers of baking and custard powders. The company had been founded by his father George Borwick. Before his elevation to the peerage, Borwick had been created a baronet, of Eden Lacy in the Parish of Lazonby in the County of Cumberland, on 1 July 1916. His eldest son, the second Baron, was succeeded by his younger brother, the third Baron. The latter was succeeded by his son, the fourth Baron (who had four daughters). the titles are held by his nephew, the fifth Baron, who succeeded in 2007. Roger Dennistoun "Dennis" Poore (19 August 1916, Paddington, London – 12 February 1987, Kensington) was a British entrepreneur, financier and sometime racing driver. He became chairman of NVT during the dying days of the old British motorcycle industry. Family His father, Roger Poore, DSO, was killed in action in World War I on 26 September 1917. Wispers School was a British independent boarding school for girls aged between 11 and 18 which was founded in 1947 and which closed in 2008 after 61 years' operation. For the first part of its life it was based at Wispers, a large country house near Midhurst, West Sussex, UK; it was also briefly based at West Dean House, also in West Sussex, and for the last 40 years of its existence at Oak Hall, Haslemere in Surrey. Midhurst In 1946 Helen Brown, the wife of a vicar, bought Herries School in Cookham Dean in Berkshire. In 1947 her husband needed to be confined to a TB clinic near the south coast, and accordingly the school was to move to Wispers, a large country house designed by the architect Richard Norman Shaw, near Midhurst in West Sussex. 2008 London Assembly Election
An election to the Assembly of London took place on 1 May 2008, along with the 2008 London mayoral election. The Conservatives gained 2 seats, Labour gained one seat, the Liberal Democrats lost two seats, and UKIP were wiped out. Notably, a candidate for the British National Party (BNP) was elected for the first time. The Assembly is elected by the Additional Member System. Fourteen directly elected constituencies exist, all of which have, to date, only ever been won by the Conservative Party or the Labour Party.
