Victor Westerholm
Victor Axel Westerholm (4 January 1860 Turku – 19 November 1919 Turku) was a Finnish landscape painter, especially known for founding the Önningeby artists' colony. Biography Victor Axel Westerholm was born in Turku in 1860. He was the son of Viktor Westerholm, a ship's master, and Maria Westerholm (née Andersson). As a child he spent a lot of time at the island of Nagu in the Finnish Archipelago. From 1869 to 1878 he studied at the Finnish Art Society's Drawing School in Turku, under Robert Wilhelm Ekman (1808–1873) and Thorsten Waenerberg (1846–1917); and as a young man he studied under Eugen Dücker (1841–1916) in Düsseldorf from 1878-1880. Turku
Turku ( ; ; sv, Åbo, ) is a city and former capital on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper (''Varsinais-Suomi'') and the former Turku and Pori Province (''Turun ja Porin lääni''; 1634–1997). Kymi River
The Kymi ( fi, Kymijoki, sv, Kymmene älv) is a river in Finland. It begins at Lake Päijänne, flows through the provinces of Päijänne Tavastia, Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso and discharges into the Gulf of Finland. The river passes the towns of Heinola and Kouvola. The town of Kotka is located on the river delta. The length of the river is , but its drainage basin of extends to almost inside the Tavastia, Central Finland, Savonia and Ostrobothnia. The furthest source of the river is Lake Pielavesi, its furthest point being some from the sea measured by flow route. The name of the river, itself, ''kymi'', means "large river", in Old Finnish. Eckerö is a municipalities of Åland, municipality of Åland, an autonomous territory under Finland, Finnish sovereignty. Werner Holmberg
Gustaf Werner Holmberg (1 November 1830 – 24 September 1860) was a Finnish landscape painter. Biography Early life Holmberg was born in Helsinki. His father was Olof Henrik Holmberg (1799–1863) and mother Josefina Gustava Federley (1806–1840). His mother passed away from a lung disease and Olof raised his six surviving children with the help of his sisters. Werner was interested in painting from a young age, taking private lessons from and later Magnus von Wright. He also learned oil painting from Johan Erik Lindh. In 1848 he became a student at the just-formed Academy of Fine Arts. However his father Olof wanted his son to study law, so in his first year of university studies he also worked part-time at the National Board of Customs. Elias Muukka
Elias Muukka (10 June 1853 – 2 October 1938) was a Finnish painter. He mainly painted landscapes, usually from the rural areas of Karelia and from Turku. Biography He was born at the village of Suontakainen in Lemi, Finland. He attended school at Vyborg. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki in 1874–1877, at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1877–1879 and at the Académie Colarossi in Paris 1880–1881. Following his début in 1876, he exhibited regularly at the Finnish Artists Exhibitions from 1892 to 1938. His works were also presented in Paris (1889) and Stockholm (1929). Muukka adopted the style of the Düsseldorf School. Typical of the Düsseldorf School, his work often includes landscapes of water scenes featuring figures. He worked as a drawing instructor at the seminar in Sordavala in Karelia in 1883-1885 and founded a private school for drawing and painting in Vaasa in 1886. Edvard Westman
Gustav Edvard Westman (16 May 1865 – 23 September 1917) was a Sweden, Swedish painter, known for his works in the en plein air, plein air style. Biography Edvard Westman was born in Gävle, Sweden, but spent most of his childhood in Stockholm. He was the son of Johan Ludwig Westman and Emma Elisabeth Holmström. His brother Ernst Ludvig Westman (1863–1949) was also an artist. After first attending the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, Swedish Academy in Stockholm from 1882 to 1883, he was then a student with artist Oscar Törnå (c. 1842–1894) at his studio. He continued his studies in the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf Academy from 1883 to 1885 under Heinrich Lauenstein, followed by a period in Paris and Belgium.
