Victor Schroeder
Victor Harold Schroeder (born February 16, 1944 to a Mennonite family in Altona, Manitoba) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1979 to 1988, and a senior cabinet minister in the New Democratic Party government of Howard Pawley from 1981 to 1988. Education The son of Henry Schroeder and Anna Braun, he was educated at Mennonite Collegiate Institute Gretna, Manitoba, the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. Career He worked as a lawyer before entering public life, and was a member of the Manitoba Securities Commission as well as serving as a Vice-Chairman of the Manitoba Public Utilities Board. He first ran for the Manitoba legislature in a 1972 by-election in the Winnipeg riding of Wolseley, finishing third against Manitoba Liberal Party leader Izzy Asper. Mennonite
Mennonites are groups of Anabaptist Christian church communities of denominations. The name is derived from the founder of the movement, Menno Simons (1496–1561) of Friesland. Through his writings about Reformed Christianity during the Radical Reformation, Simons articulated and formalized the teachings of earlier Swiss founders, with the early teachings of the Mennonites founded on the belief in both the mission and ministry of Jesus, which the original Anabaptist followers held with great conviction, despite persecution by various Roman Catholic and Mainline Protestant states. Premier Of Manitoba
The premier of Manitoba (french: premier ministre du Manitoba) is the first minister (i.e., head of government or chief executive) for the Canadian province of Manitoba—as well as the ''de facto'' President of the province's Executive Council. In formal terms, the premier receives a commission to form a government from the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, who represents the monarch at the provincial level. The 24th and current premier of Manitoba is Heather Stefanson ( Progressive Conservative Party), who was sworn in on November 2, 2021. Harold Neufeld
Harold Neufeld (born October 10, 1927, in Altona, Manitoba) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1988 to 1993, and a cabinet minister in the government of Gary Filmon from 1988 to 1992. Neufeld began a public practice as a Chartered Accountant in 1954, and was a member of the ''Chartered Accountants of Manitoba''. He first ran for the Manitoba legislature in the 1986 provincial election as a Progressive Conservative, losing to incumbent New Democrat Vic Schroeder by 527 votes in the north-end Winnipeg riding of Rossmere. In the 1988 election, with NDP support falling throughout the province, he was able to defeat Schroeder by 526 votes in a rematch. Neufeld was appointed Minister of Energy and Mines with responsibility for the Manitoba Hydro Act and Seniors on May 9, 1988. He was relieved of the latter responsibility on April 21, 1989. 1986 Manitoba General Election
The 1986 Manitoba general election was held on March 18, 1986 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. It was won by the New Democratic Party of Manitoba, New Democratic Party, which took 30 seats out of 57. The Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba, Progressive Conservative Party won 26 seats and formed the official opposition. The Manitoba Liberal Party, which had not been represented in the previous legislature, won one seat.
