Victor Ion Popa
Victor Ion Popa (; July 29, 1895 in Bârlad – March 30, 1946 in Bucharest) was a Romanian dramatist. He went to primary school in the village of Călmăţui, a village in the Grivița commune, in the former Tutova County, where his father was a schoolteacher. At Iași he finished his first five years of junior high/high school at the Costache Negruzzi Boarding High School and his last two years of high school at the National High School, graduating in 1914. He enrolled in the Iași Conservatory and for a time in the Law Faculty of the University of Iași. One of his most famous plays is (1932), about three small merchants, a Romanian, a Romanian Jew, and a Turk, respectively. The Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (Romanian: ''Universitatea „Alexandru Ioan Cuza"''; acronym: UAIC) is a public university located in Iași, Romania. Founded by an 1860 decree of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, under whom the former Academia Mihăileană was converted to a university, the University of Iași, as it was named at first, is one of the oldest universities of Romania, and one of its advanced research and education institutions. The George Enescu National University of Arts ( ro, Universitatea Națională de Arte „George Enescu”) is a public university in Iași, Romania, founded in 1860. It was named in honor of the composer George Enescu. History The institution was established on 1 October 1860, as the ''Music and Declamation School'', by decree of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, followed 26 days later, by the foundation of the School for Sculpture and Painting. In October 1864, Cuza approved the Charter for the ''Music and Declamation Conservatory'' and the Charter for the ''National Schools of Fine Arts'' (establishing the departments of painting, sculpture, gravure, architecture and the art of landscape architecture). Bârlad
Bârlad () is a city in Vaslui County, Romania. It lies on the banks of the river Bârlad, which waters the high plains of Western Moldavia. At Bârlad the railway from Iași diverges, one branch skirting the river Siret, the other skirting the Prut; both reunite at Galați. Along with a maze of narrow and winding streets, Bârlad features several notable modern buildings, including the hospital administered by the Saint Spiridion Foundation of Iași. In the vicinity of the city are the ruins of a Roman camp. The city is the birthplace of Romanian ''Domnitor'' (Ruler) and diplomat Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Etymology Scholars continue to debate the origin of the city's name. __NOTOC__ The National College ( ro, Colegiul Național) is a high school located at 4 Arcu Street, Iași, Romania. History The school traces its origins to two earlier institutions, the Vasilian College and Academia Mihăileană. In 1860, when the latter's higher education role was taken over by the new University of Iași, it continued as the National College, a high school with seven grades. In 1864, it was renamed the National High School; reflecting its early commitment to the Romanian language, it was the country's first school to feature the term “national” in its name.
