Victor Heringer
Victor Doblas Heringer (March 27, 1988 – March 7, 2018) was a Brazilian Prêmio Jabuti-winning novelist, translator, chronicler and poet, famous for his novels ''Glória'' (2012) and ''O Amor dos Homens Avulsos'' (2016). Biography Victor Doblas Heringer was born on March 27, 1988, to a family of German descent in Rio de Janeiro, in the ''bairro'' (neighborhood) of São Cristóvão, but was raised in Nova Friburgo. Graduated in Literature from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, before publishing his first books he worked at the Instituto Moreira Salles and at the Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa after obtaining a scholarship for the latter. Between 2014 and 2017 he had a weekly column in the magazine '' Pessoa'', and also periodically wrote for the Pernambuco-based magazine ''Continente'', among many others. Loung Ung
Loung Ung ( km, អ៊ឹង លួង; born 19 November 1970) is a Cambodian American human-rights activist, lecturer and national spokesperson for the Campaign for a Landmine-Free World, between 1997 and 2003. She has served in the same capacity for the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, which is affiliated with the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. Born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Ung was the sixth of seven children and the third of four girls to Seng Im Ung and Ay Choung Ung. At the age of 10, she escaped from Cambodia as a survivor of what became known as "the Killing Fields" during the reign of Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime. After emigrating to United States and assimilating, she wrote two books which related to her life experiences from 1975 through 2003. The São Paulo Prize for Literature ( pt, Prêmio São Paulo de Literatura) is a Brazilian literary prize for novels written in the Portuguese language and published in Brazil. It was established in 2008 by the Secretary of Culture for the State of São Paulo. Though not as old as other literary prizes in Brazil, such as the Machado de Assis Prize, the São Paulo Prize has quickly risen in prestige. For example, in 2011, there were 221 submissions for the prize. This rapid rise in popularity is partly because of the large cash prize. Every year two prizes of R$200,000 each are awarded—one for the best novel of the year by an established author, and the other for the best novel of the year by a debut author—making the São Paulo Prize the largest prize for a published work in Brazil, and one of the largest literary prizes in the world.
