Victor George
Victor George (10 April 1955 – 9 July 2001) was an Indian photographer who died while photographing landslides in Kerala. He was the chief photographer of the ''Malayala Manorama''. Early life Victor was born in the Pattithananm-Kanakkary village, Kottayam district, Kerala. He studied English literature at university. His brother introduced him to photography. Career In 1981, Victor joined Malayala Manorama, a Malayalam daily. From 1985 to 1990, he worked in their Delhi bureau. The photographs taken by him during the 1986 National Games won him initial recognition in the field. His shots of the swimmer Anita Sood with Kavita Sood cheering her from the gallery during the women's 400-metre freestyle brought Victor instant recognition. His photograph of the Indian relay team dropping the baton in a disastrous finish at the 1989 South Asian Federation Games, Kolkata, was widely appreciated. Kottayam District
Kottayam (), is one of 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala. Kottayam district comprises six municipal towns: Kottayam, Changanassery, Pala, Erattupetta, Ettumanoor, and Vaikom. It is the only district in Kerala that neither borders the Arabian Sea nor any other states. The district is bordered by hills in the east, and the Vembanad Lake and paddy fields of Kuttanad on the west. The area's geographic features include paddy fields, highlands, and hills. As of the 2011 census, 28.6% of the district's residents live in urban areas, and it reports a 97.2% literacy rate. In 2008, the district became the first tobacco-free district in India. Kottayam () is a municipal town in the Indian state of Kerala. Flanked by the Western Ghats on the east and the Vembanad Lake and paddy fields of Kuttanad on the west. It is the district headquarters of Kottayam district, located in south-west Kerala. Kottayam is located in the basin of the Meenachil River at an average elevation of above sea level, and has a moderate climate. It is located approximately north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. South Asian Federation Games
The South Asian Games (SAG or SA Games), formerly known as the South Asian Federation Games (SAFG or SAF Games), is a quadrennial multi-sport event held among the athletes from South Asia. The governing body of these games is South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC), formed in 1983. Currently, the SAOC comprises 7 member countries, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan participated 4 times in the SAF Games since 2004, but left the SAOC after participating in the 2016th edition and joined CAOC. The first South Asian Games were hosted by Kathmandu, Nepal in 1984. From 1984 to 1987 they were held every year except 1986, as it was a year of Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
