Sri Lankan Independence Movement
The Sri Lankan independence movement was a peaceful political movement which was aimed at achieving independence and self-rule for the country of Sri Lanka, then British Ceylon, from the British Empire. The switch of powers was generally known as peaceful transfer of power from the British administration to Ceylon representatives, a phrase that implies considerable continuity with a colonial era that lasted 400 years. It was initiated around the turn of the 20th century and led mostly by the educated middle class. It succeeded when, on 4 February 1948, Ceylon was granted independence as the Dominion of Ceylon. Dominion status within the British Commonwealth was retained for the next 24 years until 22 May 1972 when it became a republic and was renamed the Republic of Sri Lanka. British colonial rule The British Raj was dominant in Asia after the Battle of Assaye; following the Battle of Waterloo, the British Empire became more influential. Its prestige was only briefly d ...

King Of Kandy
The Kandyan monarchs ruled the Kingdom of Kandy on the island of Sri Lanka from 1469 to 1815. The Kingdom was first established by Senasammata Vikramabahu, a royal from the Kingdom of Kotte, when he led the secession of the Kande uda pas rata (‘the five regions of the hill country’), a realm of the Kingdom of Kotte, during the reign of Parakramabahu VI. Vikramabahu, who founded the city of Kandy reigned for 4 decades, setting an example of longevity and stability for the new kingdom. It is possible to say that the Kingdom of Kandy was ruled by three dynasties, the House of Siri Sanga Bo, the House of Dinajara and the Nayaks of Kandy.
