Vickery Turner
Vickery Turner (3 April 1940 in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey – 4 April 2006), born Christine Hazel Turner, was a British actress, playwright, author and theatre director. Career She started out on stage and her first breakthrough role was in the first production of '' The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie'' opposite Vanessa Redgrave. For that role Turner received the Clarence Derwent Award for the best supporting performance and the London Critics Award for the most promising newcomer. Her television work began with Ken Loach's once controversial ''Up The Junction'' (1965) for the BBC's '' Wednesday play'' series. She acted in many of the more famous British plays of the 1960s. The plays she wrote for the BBC's ''Thirty-Minute Theatre'' series were "Keep on Running" and "Magnolia Summer" and for ''The Wednesday Play'' "Kippers & Curtains". Sunbury-on-Thames
Sunbury-on-Thames (or commonly Sunbury) is a suburban town on the north bank of the River Thames in the Borough of Spelthorne, Surrey, centred southwest of central London. Historically part of the county of Middlesex, in 1965 Sunbury and other surrounding towns were initially intended to form part of the newly created county of Greater London but were instead transferred to Surrey. Sunbury adjoins Feltham to the north, Hampton, London, Hampton to the east, Ashford, Middlesex, Ashford to the northwest and Shepperton to the southwest. Clarence Derwent Awards
The Clarence Derwent Awards are theatre awards given annually by the Actors' Equity Association on Broadway in the United States and by Equity, the performers' union, in the West End in the United Kingdom. Clarence Derwent (23 March 1884 – 6 August 1959) was an English actor, director, and manager. He was educated at St Paul's School, London and the Birkbeck Institute. He joined Sir Frank Benson's stage company, with whom he stayed for five years. He then joined Annie Horniman's repertory company in Manchester. He was seen in a great variety of roles, both in London and New York. He made his last appearance on stage in 1948 in ''The Madwoman of Chaillot''. He died in New York at the age of 75. From 1946 to 1952 Derwent was President of America's Actors' Equity. Frith Banbury
Frederick Harold Frith Banbury MBE (4 May 1912 – 14 May 2008) was a British theatre actor and director. Banbury was born in Plymouth, Devon, on 4 May 1912, the son of Rear Admiral Frederick Arthur Frith Banbury and his wife Winifred (née Fink). While attending Stowe School, Banbury rejected his father's naval background by refusing to join the Officer Training Corps, later being registered as a conscientious objector, enabling him to continue acting throughout the Second World War. He went on to attend Hertford College, Oxford, though he left after one year without obtaining an academic degree. He trained for the stage at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art alongside Joan Littlewood, Rachel Kempson, Robert Morley, and Peter Bull. Banbury died on 14 May 2008, at the age of 96. It was created by Earl Hamner Jr., based on his 1961 book ''Spencer's Mountain'' and the 1963 film of the same name. The series aired from 1972 to 1981. ''Thirty-Minute Theatre'' was a British anthology drama series of short plays shown on BBC Television between 1965 and 1973, which was used in part at least as a training ground for new writers, on account of its short running length, and which therefore attracted many writers who later became well known.
