The University of Jaffna ( ta, யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகம், translit=Yāḻppāṇap Palkalaikkaḻakam; si, යාපනය විශ්වවිද්යාලය, ''Yāpanaya Viśvavidyālaya''; abbreviated UoJ) is a public university in the city of Jaffna in Sri Lanka. Established in 1974 as the sixth campus of the University of Sri Lanka, it became an independent, autonomous university in 1979. UoJ — the main campus in Thirunelvely in Jaffna . Chelvy Thiyagarajah
Thiagarajah Selvanithy or (Selvi) from Sri Lanka an International PEN award winner in 1992, who was abducted and executed by the LTTE. Biography Selvi was born into a peasant family in Semamadu, a village about 80 miles south of Jaffna. Activism Selvi was a Tamil language poet from Jaffna in Sri Lanka. A third-year student in Theater and Drama Arts in the University of Jaffna. She was the founder of a feminist journal called ''Tholi'' and was a gifted young poet who in her work deplored the carnage brought about by the Sri Lankan civil war. Selvi also produced two plays, one about dowry payments and the other about rapes. Abduction On 30 August 1991, Selvi was arrested by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam or LTTE, a rebel group fighting for independence for minority Sri Lankan Tamil people in Sri Lanka. ''Ceylon Today'' is an English language Sri Lankan daily newspaper published by Ceylon Newspapers (Private) Limited. It was founded in 2011 and is published from Colombo. Its sister newspaper is the ''Mawbima''. Ceylon Newspapers (Private) Limited is owned by politician Tiran Alles Tiran Alles, MP is a Sri Lankan businessman and politician. Joseph Ponniah
Right Reverend Joseph Ponniah (born 12 October 1952) is a Sri Lankan Tamil people, Sri Lanka Tamil priest and the current Roman Catholicism in Sri Lanka, Roman Catholic Bishop of Batticaloa. Early life Ponniah was born on 12 October 1952 in Thannamunai in eastern Dominion of Ceylon, Ceylon. He was educated at St. Joseph's Minor Seminary and St. Joseph's College, Trincomalee. He has Bachelor of Philosophy degree from St. Paul Seminary, Thiruchirapally and a Bachelor of Theology from the National Seminary, Poonah. Ponniah also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Peradeniya, a Licentiate in Biblical Theology degree from the Pontifical Urbaniana University (1993) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Christian civilization from the University of Jaffna.
